Cloud Engineer

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Digital Transformation Unit of Bayer Consumer Health runs a global, Azure-based Data & Analytics platform that powers ML, AI, and GenAI solutions across the business. We are seeking a Cloud Engineer to join a DevOps-focused team responsible for evolving and operating a globally scalable Data, Analytics, and AI platform on Microsoft Azure incl. Azure Databricks. You will work closely with Platform & Data Architects, Engineers, and Data Scientists to identify capability gaps, design and implement platform features, and ensure secure, cost-efficient, and highly available operations following Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD best practices.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with cloud architects to shape the platform roadmap and translate roadmap items into concrete requirements across Data & Analytics, GenAI, ML, and application development domains.
  • Design, implement, and enable new Azure and Databricks services and features, ensuring they meet security, scalability, cost, and compliance requirements.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (ARM/Bicep, Terraform patterns where applicable), CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment workflows that support repeatable, auditable platform changes.
  • Own operational readiness: create runbooks, onboarding documentation, and training sessions so engineering teams and stakeholders can leverage new capabilities.
  • Support platform operations including lifecycle management, incident triage and resolution, service requests, and automation of routine operational tasks to reduce toil.
  • Implement and maintain observability (monitoring, logging, tracing) and SLO/SLI-driven practices to detect, troubleshoot, and prevent service degradations.
  • Drive cost optimization and compliance efforts, including evaluating and applying AI-assisted/automation techniques to keep data operations efficient and governed.
  • Work with cloud, infrastructure, and cyber security teams — and with external technology partners when necessary — to reduce cyber-security risks, ensure compliance with Bayer guidelines and industry standards, overcome blockers, and accelerate platform delivery.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, IT Engineering, or a related discipline / equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years’ hands-on experience in Microsoft Azure cloud development and Infrastructure as Code. Strong, practical knowledge of the Data Platform stack (Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Synapse or equivalents) and application platform components (Container Apps, Web Apps, App Services).
  • Proficient experience with Azure network design and security constructs (Private Link, VNet design, Azure Firewall, NSGs) and Azure authentication/authorization patterns (Azure AD, managed identities).
  • Proven coding and automation skills: PowerShell, ARM/Bicep (or Terraform), Git/GitHub workflows, and CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based analytics, ML, and data engineering tooling and how to scale them effectively and economically.
  • Good understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, data science workflows; knowledge of Snowflake is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, excellent documentation habits, and clear communication—able to consult, challenge constructively, and work across functional and cultural boundaries.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and fluent English (written and spoken).

If you enjoy building reliable, scalable data and AI platforms on Azure and Databricks and want to help shape the backbone of enterprise analytics, we’d like to hear from you.
