Digital Insight Scientist
POSITION PURPOSE:
We are looking for a strategic and skilled Seed Generation Digital Insight scientist to enhance our pipeline strategy through data-driven insights in the vegetable industry. This role will focus on designing and implementing digital solutions for our seed generation operations across the EMEA and Asia regions by driving digital initiatives and hands-on data analytics project implemetation. The ideal candidate will combine strong business acumen, data analysis expertise, and project management skills to drive operational excellence and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and Implement Digital Solutions
Design and implement comprehensive digital solutions for seed generation and phenotyping, utilizing biological knowledge, breeding strategies, and operational processes. Lead high-priority digital transformation projects to enhance data science impact and achieve production visibility and accuracy.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders
Use internal metrics to monitor and forecast seed generation trends, which will inform product development timelines and strategies. Work closely with breeders, planners, and product teams to maintain clear communication about seed production metrics and the success of trial tests. Ensure all teams are aligned and understand each other to improve operational efficiency.
- Enhance Digital Operations
Partner with different sites to find and implement key tools that improve digital operations. Manage and streamline digital platforms and processes related to seed production and phenotyping, focusing on maintaining data integrity and operational efficiency. - Project Management of Digital Initiatives
Prioritize digital initiatives based on their impact and feasibility. Assemble the appropriate resources for each project and oversee project management activities to ensure timely and successful completion of digital transformation efforts. - Ensure Data Quality and Connectivity
Promote strong data connectivity by maintaining consistency, quality, availability, and completeness of data. This involves implementing quality checks, validation processes, and ongoing monitoring in collaboration with data architects and engineers. - Empower Teams with Data Training
Collaborate with the Center’s insight analyst to provide training and resources that help teams effectively interpret and use data. Act as the main contact for users of data assets, offering guidance and support to enhance their understanding and utilization of the data. - Analyze Data for Insights
Examine complex datasets to uncover actionable insights that will facilitate the development of analytics and AI solutions. - This role has 30-40% project management responsibility, and 60-70% hands-on digital analytics tasks.
KEY WORKING RELATION:
- Collaborate with regional Vegetable R&D functions, including Crop Production, Nursery, Phenotyping, Analytics, Discovery, Pathology, Digital Solutions, and New Technologies.
- Engage with capacity planning, data analytics, enterprise IT, and other stakeholders to align objectives and drive successful outcomes.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Educational Background: Master’s degree in plant breeding, agronomy, statistics, data science, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the seeds industry R&D division; or a Ph.D. with over 2 years of experience.
- Critical Knowledge and Experience:
- Proficiency in data management, with the ability to query and analyse large, complex datasets, and advanced data fluency (e.g., SQL, open-source programming languages).
- Experience in IT systems/tools relevant for germplasm management, breeding and phenotyping, seed generation operations
- Experience with digital platforms, data analysis tools, and software development technologies for automation
- Comprehensive understanding of commercial breeding pipelines, germplasm phenotyping, seed generation operations, and the overall product development process.
