Geospatial Data Steward 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

An imagery data specialist works with UAV mission data to ensure data quality for critical advancement decisions.

 Individuals in this role will:

  • Analyze and troubleshoot pre-analytic and post-analytic UAV mission data to identify necessary remediation steps
  • Apply standardized data remediation process to pre-analytic and post-analytic UAV mission data with standardized web toolset
  • Support image labeling & annotation projects (geospatial and non-geospatial imagery) using innovative industry toolsets for small scale and large scale projects that build reliable training sets for imagery models
  • Learn and apply different imagery label modalities used to annotate image (pixel) data, enabling computer vision models to learn from, identify, and categorize objects in images and video (bbox, keypoint, segmentation, etc.)
  • Identify opportunities and make recommendations to improve the quality and trustworthiness of data throughout the organization

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate

  • Collaborate with teammates and stakeholders to understand quality standards and conflicts associated with UAV mission data
  • Collaborate with teammates and stakeholders to define and implement, and help manage image label solutions, including predictive labeling
  • Be comfortable working with remote teammates via MS Teams and effectively communicating on asynchronous schedules
  • Work effectively with a small in-office team to discuss/solve spatial data quality issues and share knowledge for benefit and growth of team as a whole

Communicating Analysis and Insight

  • Understand the appropriate media to communicate findings
  • Shape and share communications relevant to the audience
  • Give tactical recommendations on data process & improvement

Communicating Between Technical and Non-Technical Colleagues

  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Support and host discussions within a multidisciplinary team, with potentially difficult dynamics
  • Be an advocate for the team externally, and can manage differing perspectives

Data Governance

  • Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of data governance theory, standard methodology and the practical considerations

Data Innovation

  • Understand the impact on the organization of emerging trends in data tools, analysis techniques and data usage

Data Lifecycle

  • Understand and apply data governance over a data life cycle, ensuring best practice at each phase

Data Management

  • Understand data governance and how it works in relation to other organizational governance structures
  • Participate in or deliver the assurance of a service
  • Work within the organization to minimize data risks, adhere to information security policy, and increase data literacy

Data Regulation and Ethics

  • Apply relevant data and ethical frameworks and standards to work

Data Standards

  • Demonstrate an understanding of best practice data policies, processes and standards, and can implement them effectively
  • Understand which standards need to be applied in different scenarios
  • Work effectively with subject matter experts to develop the rules, policies and guidance needed to safeguard the organization's data assets

  • Work within a strategic context and communicate how activities meet strategic goals
  • Contribute to the development of strategy and policies
  • Identify gaps in current methodologies and work with a team to enhance workflows where appropriate

 

WHO YOU ARE:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related quantitative discipline such as Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, Statistics, or other STEM related field
  • Strong understanding of geospatial and/or image data management principles and best practices
  • Exposure to GIS/Web map tools and geospatial data & concepts
  • Experience with data quality and governance tools and techniques, frameworks and methodologies
  • Proficiency in data analysis, profiling, and reporting
  • Experience with metadata management tools and practices
  • Understanding of data lineage and data cataloging concepts
  • Relevant work experience in data-centric environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment

Preferred

  • Understanding of geospatial and/or image data management principles and best practices
  • Familiarity with UAV/remotely sensed imaging workflows and data processing  or familiarity with georeferencing, orthorectified imagery, computer vision or agronomic data workflows
  • Experience working with GIS web or desktop systems like QGIS/ESRI ArcGIS Pro/ArcMap
  • Experience with data labeling toolsets and workflows like CVAT, Label Studio, LabelImg
  • Proficiency in SQL and RDB systems
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with API data services
  • Familiarity with support ticket systems (ServiceNow, JIRA, etc.)
