Senior Rice Quantitative Genetics Scientist 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Quantitative Genetics research leader who designs quantitative genetics research projects for breeding program design and optimization, breeding goal definition, optimization of automated crossing processes, genetic evaluation, and optimization of data acquisition for Product Design. Leads multi-disciplinary project teams to advance the Precision Breeding strategy for Product Design. Leads the delivery of high-quality lines, data packages and prescriptions to the Product Development pipeline using the latest innovations in data science, genomics, quantitative genetics, computational biology, bioinformatics and advanced genotypic, phenotypic and environmental modeling.

 

YOUR TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership to develop, implement and advance quantitative genetics innovations in the Product Design pipeline
  • Executes the quantitative genetics technical strategy to design improved cohorts of germplasm that are aligned with Product Concept targets from initial crossing through the handoff to Product Development
  • Supports quantitative genetics projects on implementation of Precision Breeding technical innovations in Product Design
  • Contributes strong technical expertise in coding, delivering and utilizing models, algorithms and systems for breeding program design and optimization, breeding goal definition, optimization of automated crossing processes, genetic evaluation, and optimization of data acquisition at scale
  • Identifies key areas of opportunity for new technology implementation and/or process improvement, while positively contributing to a collaborative, innovative, and design-centric culture
  • Contributes to multi-function teams across Product Design and partners across other world regions (LATAM, EMEA and APAC) to support innovation projects for Precision Breeding, with a key focus on driving genetic gain and product performance through enhanced quantitative genetics development and deployment in at least one crop
  • Supports the Health Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights policies and culture in the site

 

WHO ARE YOU:

  • PhD degree in Quantitative Genetics, Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, or other relevant scientific field with minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or MS degree with 8+ years of experience in developing quantitative genetics methods for routine use in breeding programs
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to achieve common goals
  • Demonstrated experience leading and influencing activities of cross-functional teams without direct reporting relationships
  • Ability to lead and influence key stakeholders through challenges and opportunities; facilitates solutions
  • Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously
  • Experienced in analysis of large biological data sets, quantitative genetics, statistical genetics as well as coding experience in C, Fortran or similar languages
  • Demonstrated track record of success and 4+ years of experience in deriving quantitative genetics theory for, in coding, in delivering and in utilizing, algorithms and systems for at least two of the following areas: (i) breeding program design and optimization; (ii) breeding goal definition; (iii) optimization of automated crossing processes; (iv) genetic evaluation; and (vi) optimization of data acquisition at scale in plant or animal breeding programs
