Backend Software Engineer with DevOps Ex 

 

 

Position Overview:

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated individual with a strong software engineering background and relevant experience to join Bayer’s Vegetable R&D Analytics and Pipeline Design team as a Backend Software Engineer with DevOps experience.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in general backend software development, coupled with experience in cloud engineering and cloud infrastructure management. You will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining key projects in the Vegetable R&D portfolio. This involves collaborating with a diverse group of global cross-functional scientists, engineers, developers, plant breeders, and IT teams.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs for web applications.
  • Implement secure and performant RESTful APIs to support frontend applications and data-intensive services.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain data processing pipelines ensuring high performance and responsiveness.
  • Integrate with various data storage services including object storage, and relational and non-relational databases.
  • Implement efficient asynchronous processing mechanisms that meet application performance specifications.
  • Installation and configuration of cloud infrastructure using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to ensure continuous integration, testing, and deployment of backend components.
  • Monitor application and infrastructure metrics, including cloud cost metrics, troubleshoot issues and optimize infrastructure for reliability and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, determine the most appropriate solution based on project needs, and ensure seamless integration with front-end solutions.
  • Participate in reviewing software code, writing documentation, developing unit and integration tests, and sharing knowledge to promote best practices within the team.
  • Follow Bayer and industry best practices.
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments and industry trends in cloud technologies, DevOps tools, and other relevant technologies.

 

WHO YOU ARE

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related discipline plus 5 years of experience
  • Proven experience in developing backend applications with Python
  • Experience working in Agile Scrum teams

 

SKILLS (Technical & Soft)

  • Strong proficiency in Python, including coding standards and unit tests
  • Proven experience with cloud platforms and their services, e.g. AWS and GCP
  • Strong proficiency with infrastructure as code tools, e.g. Terraform
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., GitHub) and working with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions)
  • Good understanding of data security best practices and data access controls building applications in the cloud
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
