Tax Expert
1. Position Purpose
The Tax Expert supports sound business decisions, compliance and risk management by providing practical, high-quality tax advice.
The role operates in a dynamic legislative and business environment shaped by evolving tax and accounting rules, business models and stakeholder expectations. It requires solid technical knowledge, continuous learning and the ability to navigate complexity with clarity.
The jobholder is expected to provide timely, well-founded recommendations by combining technical expertise, business understanding and practical risk assessment, with appropriate escalation of material or strategic matters.
The role supports interactions with tax authorities, including audits, disputes and litigation, in close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
The role works across local and global networks with business teams, Finance, GBS, the global Tax function and other enabling functions. It supports ongoing operations as well as acquisitions and reorganizations by translating complex tax matters into actionable guidance. The role has primary responsibility for Spain and contributes to tax alignment, stakeholder collaboration and selected cross-country topics across the South Europe cluster, including Italy and Portugal.
2. Objectives
1) Support business decisions through clear, practical and timely tax advice aligned with local requirements, global standards and business priorities.
2) Support effective execution of tax compliance processes and provide practical guidance on tax matters affecting business initiatives.
3) Handle tax matters within the assigned scope with sound judgment and escalate material topics where needed.
4) Contribute to Corporate Income Tax calculations and related tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
5) Translate relevant tax developments into clear business implications for stakeholders.
6) Support the continuous improvement of corporate procedures by embedding practical tax requirements.
7) Support the preparation of responses to Tax Authority challenges and the management of audits and litigation with external advisors.
8) Support M&A transactions and reorganizations by assessing tax impacts, risks and opportunities.
3. Major Tasks and Responsibilities
1) Tax Policy
Implement Group tax guidelines, policies and directives locally through practical and effective actions within the assigned scope.
Contribute to the definition and continuous improvement of local tax procedures and guidelines that support compliant and efficient execution.
Monitor relevant Tax Law developments and translate impacts into actionable business guidance, primarily for Spain and, where relevant, for selected South Europe cluster topics.
2) Tax Accounting
Contribute to an effective process for Corporate Income Tax calculations for reporting and statutory financial statements, ensuring accuracy, transparency and timeliness.
3) Tax Compliance
Support timely and accurate filing of Corporate Income Tax returns and related compliance obligations and review VAT declarations where applicable.
Contribute to timely payment of Corporate Income Taxes, real estate and property taxes, and support VAT and tax credit reimbursement processes.
4) Transfer Pricing
Support implementation of Transfer Pricing policy in line with global standards and local requirements.
Review intercompany agreements and contribute to Transfer Pricing documentation to support governance and audit readiness.
5) Tax Consulting
Provide tax advice on business transactions within the assigned scope, balancing risk and opportunity through pragmatic solutions.
6) Tax Audit and Litigation
Support tax audits and litigation with external advisors in line with the agreed strategy and assist in interactions with the Spanish Tax Administration as required.
7) M&A and Business Reorganization
Support M&A projects and reorganizations by assessing tax implications and informing structuring decisions.
4. Value Added / Position Objectives
- Support compliance of corporate procedures and contractual arrangements with tax law through clear guidance and effective governance.
- Create business value by translating Corporate Income Tax and VAT requirements into actionable insights.
- Contribute to mitigating tax risks in ongoing operations, M&A transactions and reorganizations while supporting sound decisions.
- Support efficient management of tax audits and litigation with group companies and external advisors.
- Contribute to an effective end-to-end tax calculation process supported by clear ownership and reliable data.
- Support transparency on the tax burden of the group companies through monitoring and forecasting activities.

7. Qualifications
Competences
- Professional tax qualification (e.g. Certified Tax Expert / Certified Public Accountant) is an advantage.
- Good understanding of accounting and broader economic matters.
- Solid knowledge of Spanish Tax Law and regulations, with good understanding of international tax principles and Transfer Pricing.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across internal and external stakeholders.
- Results orientation with accountability for compliance, accuracy and timely delivery.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment in complex or ambiguous situations.
- Demonstrated Bayer/DSO competencies, including collaboration, driving results, planning and aligning work, and managing complexity.
Experience
- Several years of relevant experience in multinational companies, international law firms and/or Big Four tax departments, covering tax compliance, advisory work and business partnering.
Education
· Degree in Economics, Law or a comparable discipline, ideally with a tax specialization
Language skills
· Fluency in Spanish
· Fluency in English
