Vegetable Production Research Scientist 


In this role as Vegetable Production Scientist you independently leads local Production Research efforts. You align this with Global Vegetable Seed Production objectives, Production Strategy, Production Research, and Local management teams. You maintain regional and global connections. And you validate new technologies under local conditions to improve seed quality, yield and reduce cost.


As the Vegetable Production Scientist you participate in the local and regional Production Research management team. Solve seed production and/or seed technology problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues. You support regional teams with implementation of new technologies. And combine result oriented leadership with initiative and foresight leading to proactive data driven support and decisions. You use statistical analysis to solve problems.


The location of the role is in The Netherlands, Bergschenhoek.


  • You will define the research question and/or problem, conduct a literature review, formulate a hypothesis, and set priorities, all in consultation with the Regional management team.
  • You will lead and conduct production research and/or seed technology trials in the field / net / glass house / laboratory or factory that maximizes overall seed yields, increase seed quality, reduce cost, and minimize waste.
  • You will organize parental characterization trials, and phase 4 data collection timely and according to agreed procedures and protocols.
  • You will process seed samples; thresh, clean, size, weigh, and count with data entered into a computer database.
  • You will analyze and summarize results in timely written and verbal reports to the Production Research, Production or MEX Teams. You will issue production or seed technology recommendations and ensure the production or MEX team’s buy-in for studies and results.
  • You will make use of company IT systems to document results and ensuring future FTO.
  • You will participate in departmental ISO quality audits and procedure documentation.
  • You will work with the Bayer networks to enhance performance through sharing and implementation of best practices.
  • You will represent Bayer Vegetables in external projects with universities, research institutes and companies.You will actively participate in the Bayer HSE program.
  • You may travel to visit projects abroad for up to 20% of your time.



  • MSc in Agricultural Science, Agronomy or Biology field required. With at least 5 years of experience. 
  • Excellent communication in English – oral, written.
  • Result driven and capacity to influence within a matrixed organization and across functions.
  • Very strong ability to navigate in a multicultural environment.
  • A track record of successful project delivery.
  • Hands on mentality to support the business. 
  • Conceptual thinking and able to solve complex problems. 
  • Excellent technical reporting skills to develop and maintain KPI/metrics. 
  • Persuasion and Result Driven
