Biotech Sustainability Intern 

 

As a Biotech Sustainability Intern, you shape the PH Biotech sustainability program and commitments into a North America–specific strategy with clear implementation tactics; you partner with a wide range of internal stakeholders to translate global sustainability ambitions into practical initiatives, metrics, and behaviors that reduce environmental impact and strengthen our culture of responsibility; you gain hands‑on experience in areas such as energy efficiency, pollution prevention, waste reduction, and sustainable facility design while contributing to a more resilient, future‑ready organization.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Shape the PH Biotech sustainability program and commitments into a North America–specific strategy, including implementation tactics and clear goals;
  • Share guidance and support for implementing sustainability initiatives, including goals, metrics, and data, and develop proposals to address environmental concerns such as energy use, conservation, pollution reduction, recycling, building and facility design, and sustainability education;
  • Collaborate and facilitate open dialogue with a wide variety of contributors and stakeholders to build partnerships and communities for environmental and sustainability topics, including identifying and coordinating training as needed;
  • Maintain current working knowledge of, and ensure compliance with, applicable local, provincial, federal, and internal environmental laws and regulations;
  • Attend and actively participate in internal sustainability focus and steering committees, helping to align local efforts with broader organizational priorities;
  • Gather data and report Biotech sustainability progress against external benchmarks and internal goals and milestones;
  • Track strategies to maintain and continuously improve system performance for efficient and sustainable operations, supporting reduction of carbon footprint, greenhouse gas emissions, waste, and water usage;
  • Assist with developing and monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and benchmarking technology against major competitors and comparable industry peers to drive continuous improvement opportunities and sustainability initiatives.

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree program in Sustainability Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Energy, Science, or a related field;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to different internal audiences;
  • Ability to deal professionally with internal customers at various organizational levels and build trusted relationships;
  • Ability to work effectively within a departmental team and with colleagues at the same or higher organizational levels;
  • Good organization, documentation, prioritization, and scheduling skills, combined with a strong desire to learn;
  • Basic problem‑solving and project management abilities together with a professional, proactive demeanor;
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing priorities;
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office and beginner‑level proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Demonstrated potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought.

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $24.00 to $43.25. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
