Packaging Operator - Berkeley, CA (Multiple Positions) 

 

Packaging Operator – Berkeley, CA

PURPOSE

As a vital member of our production team, you perform all duties related to the inspection and packaging of production lots, ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of inspection and packaging areas. Your role is crucial in maintaining the quality and efficiency of our operations, contributing to the overall success of the department.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Visually inspect product vials for defects, media-filled vials for evidence of contamination, and packaging components for quality;
  • Follow all cGMPs, completing data recording contemporaneously in associated BPRs/EBRs and inventory management systems;
  • Assemble product and components for packaging operations according to production schedule, BOMs, or instructions from supervisors; perform associated inventory adjustments and material movements in inventory management systems;
  • Set up packaging line and equipment; safely operate equipment for conducting packaging operations and packaging component preparation operations; distribute components, supplies, and product to packaging stations as needed;
  • Unload products from storage containers and examine for defects in container closure systems or product content; check for correct lot information on product containers and components;
  • Organize and remove product in and out of cold rooms; secure and store all in-process products and components in their proper areas; move skids, transit trays, hand trucks, and other containers as required for efficient operation;
  • Perform line clearances, count and reconcile product and components; perform all functions in a safe and cGMP compliant manner;
  • Clean, inspect, and maintain production equipment/facilities;
  • Perform in-depth troubleshooting and root cause analysis of equipment and make necessary adjustments to reduce process/equipment failures;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement opportunities;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English to understand written and verbal instructions, SOPs, BPRs, etc.;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required;
  • Acceptable attendance and performance;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Proficiency in basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division);
  • SAP knowledge and proficiency in writing and execution of SAP notifications;
  • Ability to pass initial and annual inspection qualification trials;
  • Maintain output at established line speeds;
  • Monitor and maintain housekeeping in work areas in accordance with cGMP;
  • Trained and qualified to prepare cleaning solutions as needed.
  • Experience operating automated equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 300 lbs. with assistance;
  • Capacity to withstand standing and/or sitting for extended periods (up to an entire shift);
  • Ability to withstand repetitive hand/wrist motions, bending, twisting;
  • Capability to squat, bend at waist, and reach above head for extended periods;
  • Ability to pass initial and annual vision exams;
  • Work without wearing heavy makeup and/or hand lotion;
  • Ability to identify color-coded labels;
  • Wear protective clothing as required, including gloves;
  • Work in an atmosphere that may contain dust, corrugated materials, and chemicals;
  • Must meet Occupational Demands/Physical Requirement checklist.

 

Employees can expect to be paid a Union wager of $39.76 per hour. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..  This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
