Chemometrician Engineer (D/F/M) - Boissay/Toury (28), France

About the Role

The Crop Analytics Laboratory of Bayer Seeds SAS, located in Boissay (Eure-et-Loir, France), is a regional leader in the field of spectroscopic analysis for agriculture, particularly across the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa).

We are looking for a Chemometrician Engineer (M/F) to join our dynamic and collaborative team.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality, optimization, and development of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) models for key traits in various crops, primarily maize, rapeseed, and wheat, across the EMEA region.

Your Responsibilities

  • Ensure the quality and regular updating of NIRS calibration models used routinely in the laboratory.
  • Participate in the integration of new NIRS equipment: installation, qualification, and adaptation of procedures.
  • Provide field support during the rapeseed and maize seasons, especially for the deployment of on-board NIR systems and calibration processes.
  • Support laboratory analytical activities, particularly during measurement campaigns, data processing, and results validation.
  • Monitor scientific and technological advancements in chemometrics and NIR applications for large-scale crops.
  • Develop quantitative and qualitative models using both classical (PLS) and advanced techniques (neural networks, random forests, SVM…) based on NIR spectra and/or hyperspectral images.
  • Perform structured statistical evaluations (RMSE, bias, slope, R², confusion matrix, robustness, etc.).
  • Contribute to the global quality analytics network by collaborating with regional teams and participating in international projects.

Your Profile

Desired background:

  • Master’s degree in chemometrics
  • Chemical engineer with additional training in statistical tools for chemometrics and spectrometry
  • Experience in chemometrics applied to agri-food data is highly valued (e.g., training from Oniris/Nantes, AgroParisTech)
  • Applications from candidates with a Ph.D. in chemometrics or biological sciences will also be considered

You should have:

  • Strong practical knowledge of statistical and programming tools (e.g., R)
  • An understanding of calibration transfer challenges across different spectrometers
  • Excellent communication skills, adaptability, and a strong interest in fieldwork
  • Fluent proficiency in both French and English, written and spoken

What We Offer

  • Permanent contract (CDI) – Start date: September 1, 2025
  • A safe, inclusive, and collaborative work environment
  • Attractive social benefits
  • Development opportunities in France and abroad
  • Relocation assistance (subject to conditions)
