Director, Oncology Research
Bayer is a biopharmaceutical company committed to applying our scientific leadership in Oncology to transform the lives of patients with cancer. We are growing rapidly with an active research and discovery pipeline. This role will play a strategic part in guiding research and drug discovery programs in the oncology pipeline. We are seeking an innovative and agile individual who brings significant expertise in drug discovery in cancer biology as well as a passion for professional development and peer coaching.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of the Director, Oncology Research are to:
- Responsible for leading multiple drug discovery programs, initiatives, or collaborations in Research / Early Development (RED) Oncology from target identification up through support of early clinical development;
- Supports and contributes to the drug development strategy of RED Oncology;
- Supports the matrixed management and coaching of peers and other colleagues in RED Oncology to support multiple drug development programs;
- Collaborates with other R&D functions and supports cross team and cross site activities;
- Supports the career development and scientific strategic coaching of colleagues in Research Oncology;
- Implements back translational strategies at the interface of drug discovery and clinical development;
- Contributes to key documentation and presentations for projects moving through internal review stage gates and regulatory submissions;
- Works across portfolio assets to drive an integrated strategy with indication, MOA, or modality focus;
- Maintains and extend a network with external partners from academia, contract research organizations and medical experts;
- Fosters creativity and motivation between scientists;

WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required qualifications:
- PhD. in Cancer Biology or related field;
- Experience with the discovery of therapies for biomarker driven, selected patient populations;
- In-depth knowledge of cancer dependency databases, data science knowledge seen as advantageous;
- Experience in design and execution of early stage research program(s) to identify and validate novel targets;
- Experience in strategic planning and project leadership in Oncology;
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work across functions and within external collaborations, and a demonstrated ability to organize and communicate complex data sets in a clear and concise manner to cross-functional audiences;
- Strong organizational and time-management skills and demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional collaborations including managing relationships with academic collaborators and CROs;
- Desire and capacity to participate in a dynamic and fast-paced research setting;
- Recognized scientific innovation and accomplishment evidenced by strong record of publication and conference presentations in cancer biology;

Preferred qualifications:
- PhD in Cancer Biology or related field with a minimum of 12 years of industry experience.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $170,438.40 - $255,657.60. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include healthcare, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.
This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, skills, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
