Director, Translational Science Lead
At Bayer, we are committed to advancing the field of oncology through innovative research and development. As a Translational Science Lead (TSL), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our oncology portfolio. You will drive the progression of global development programs and pipeline expansion, from early target assessment through life cycle management, ensuring state-of-the-art precision medicine and patient-centric strategies.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of the Director, Translational Science Lead are to:
- Strategically direct global translational sciences activities, providing expertise and leadership in precision medicine to ensure high-quality and timely deliverables;
- Develop translational strategies from pre-clinical stages, ensuring critical input and support for preclinical projects, including companion diagnostics design;
- Establish and steer strategic partnerships with technology providers and key opinion leaders to enhance the global translational science portfolio;
- Accountable for the timely delivery of translational science milestones, mitigating roadblocks and making effective decisions to execute the strategy;
- Guide preclinical evaluation and validation of new oncology assets, focusing on value, differentiation, and unmet medical needs;
- Develop the Translation Science Oncology (TSO) organization beyond assigned programs to strengthen team setup and resilience;
- Generate and analyze translational research and clinical biomarker data sets to drive accelerated clinical development and competitive drug labels;
- Lead interactions with academic and industry partners, health authorities, and patient advocacy groups to drive the TSO development portfolio;
- Maintain an effective internal and external network, promoting TSO’s unique value proposition and representing Bayer in various external forums;
- Support the Head of TSO in delivering the functional strategy within the Research and Early Development/oncology organization;
- Foster an open dialogue within the team, encouraging ideas and suggestions for improvement, and engage in peer-based performance reviews.
WHO YOU ARE
Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our life values, more specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required qualifications:
- Medical doctor (MD), PhD, or MD/PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Pathology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Genetics);
- Industry experience in translational science, with a strong focus on oncology drug development;
- Strong understanding of disease pathophysiology and current therapeutics in oncology;
- Experience in developing clinical biomarkers and a strong scientific reputation evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals;
- Strong network in the academic and clinical community of Oncology;
- Strong leadership skills, comfortable collaborating to incorporate resources from different parts of the organization.
Preferred qualifications:
- Minimum 6-7 years of industry experience in translational science, with a strong focus on oncology drug development.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $169,680.00 - $254,520.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.
