YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Global Short Corn Senior Principal Product Design Scientist serves as a pivotal Visionary, Architect, Catalyst and Coach within a multi-disciplinary team responsible for leveraging genomic, phenomic, and environmental data to design improved Short Corn germplasm for the global market. The role demands the individual to function as a strategic leader in the delivery of enhanced Short Corn seed products, data insights, and prescriptions to the Product Development pipelines globally through utilization of accelerated breeding schemes and innovations in genomics, quantitative genetics, computational biology, and functional genomics. The position necessitates spearheading innovation, understanding, adoption and application to plant breeding of the latest scientific breakthroughs in Germplasm Improvement Science.
The primary responsibilities of this role, Global Senior Principal Product Design Scientist, are to:
- Spearhead leadership to architect the technical strategy to design improved cohorts of germplasm that are aligned with Short Corn Product Concept targets from initial crossing through the handoff to Product Development;
- Ensure alignment or resources, needs, and usage with partners;
- Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with Breeding R&D and Crop Science partner teams, including field testing, data science, engineering, molecular breeding, logistics, trait integration, Product Development, Crop Strategy, and Commercial organizations to deliver a robust product pipeline;
- Ensure meaningful knowledge and data transfer during transition points per crop cycle timelines;
- Strategically unearth and catalyzes key areas of opportunity for innovative technology implementation and/or process improvement in the Short Corn Germplasm Improvement Phase of the breeding program, while positively driving to a collaborative, innovative, and design-centric culture;
- Initiate, integrate, and lead projects/initiatives with partner teams and across world regions (NA, LATAM, EMEA, APAC), crops and technology to guide development and implementation of Short Corn within the contexts of Bayer’s strategic initiatives in Precision Breeding and Regenerative Agriculture;
- Scout, mentor and elevate cross functional talent and serves as a coach and mentor for peers or colleagues in key areas of expertise that support personal development;
- Champion the Health Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights policies and culture.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- M.S. degree in Genetics (human, animal, or plant) Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Data Science, or another relevant scientific field;
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to achieve common goals;
- Demonstrated experience leading and influencing activities of cross-functional teams without direct reporting relationships;
- Ability to lead and influence key stakeholders through challenges and opportunities; facilitates solutions;
- Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously;
- Experience in analysis of large biological data sets, quantitative genetics, biostatistics, and functional genomics;
- Experience coding in R, Python, or similar software;
- Strong collaboration ability demonstrated through building cross-functional partnerships and influencing others to drive results and solve business problems;
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex problems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in Genetics (human, animal, or plant) Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Data Science, or other relevant scientific field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience;
- M.S. degree in Genetics (human, animal, or plant) Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Data Science, or other relevant scientific field with a minimum of 12+ years of experience in breeding programs, genetics or applied data science projects.

Relocation may be offered for this role.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $150,132.80 to $225,199.20. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
