Lead Data Scientist 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Lead Data Scientist, are to:    

 

  • Drives rigorous research innovation in the modeling of genomics and phenomics using machine learning, deep learning, AI, and other novel techniques.
  • Serves as a mentor for other data scientists within the team and genuinely embodies the principals of shared ownership.
  • Builds and leads cross-functional projects linked to overall business strategy.
  • Applies insights from analogous domains to advance science within Bayer.
  • Identifies, defines and resolves unique problems at all levels within the organization.
  • Assesses needs and recommends experiments and projects, suggests new algorithmic development, drives tactical decisions for both present and future modeling directions and needed data.
  • Work within the analytics community to curate structured and unstructured data from disparate sources, cleanse and validate the data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and uniformity. Participates in strategic evaluations of new technologies and methodologies to support decision making processes.
  • Partners with business and functions, data stewards, project/program managers and other IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound organizational decisions.
  • Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary scientists and IT to integrate and transform genomic and phenotypic data into actionable knowledge and recommendations).
  • Successful at leading projects with high degree of complexity. Actively influences procedures and/or company policy.
  • Develop stories and visualization to effectively communicate qualitative analytical insights in clear, precise and actionable manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to deliver presentations to broad audiences across functions.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or applied experience in at least one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Electrical/Industrial Engineering, Operation Research, Statistical Genetics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or other related quantitative discipline.
  • Expert level of proficiency in computational skills, including a deep understanding of advanced analytics techniques and emerging forms of analytics.
  • Strong level of experience building data models using R, Python or other statistical and/or mathematical programming packages.
  • Expert level of proficiency in Machine learning algorithms and concepts.
  • Professional expertise in competencies in linear modeling, scientific modeling, and development and application of increased domain knowledge; proficiency in standard suite and/or modeling theories.
  • Extensive experience in successful delivery of valuable analysis through application of domain knowledge; evidence of strong business acumen.
  • Demonstrates advanced business acumen, people and project leadership competencies, and technical expertise.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complex qualitative analysis in a clear, precise and actionable manner and deliver presentations to large audiences, executive leadership, and externally at conference and collaborations.

 

Preferred experience:

 

  • Masters or PhD degree in at least one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Electrical/Industrial Engineering, Operation Research, Statistical Genetics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or other related quantitative discipline.
  • 5-12 years of experience  

 

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $126,000 to $192,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..  This or salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
