R&D Specialist II |

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will identify and validate molecular targets that play a key role in plant pathology, yield, and nutrition. Also, you will analyze and identify the biological, chemical, and genetic properties of plants. Additionally, you will study molecular biology, cell biology, plant genetics, plant physiology, biochemistry, and/or microbiology as input to the discovery of new plant cultivars or agricultural methods. Finally, you may conduct research on insect neurochemistry and pheromones for pest control.
The primary responsibilities of this role, R&D Specialist II, are to:
- Work collaboratively with other greenhouse and lab team members to deliver daily and weekly production targets under tight deadlines, identify opportunities for system or process improvements, operate automation, and perform experiments;
- Have primary or shared responsibility for a specialized laboratory and controlled environment technology;
- Prepare reports of an analytical and interpretative nature;
- Train and may supervise others in specialized areas;
- Interact with others within specialized areas;
- Organize and put together reports;
- Problem solve using original thinking and deductive reasoning of diverse procedures within specialized laboratory technology;
- Conduct complex activities that require the application of specialized scientific techniques;
- Take initiative to keep current with developments in specialized area;
- Work closely with work teams and support functional spaces within the Plant Biology Hub;
- Interact with all collaborating functional spaces within Plant Biotechnology as well as potential spaces within Crop Protection, Regulatory Science, and Breeding;
- Potentially collaborate with external partners on system improvements.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma;
- Strong horticultural production knowledge;
- Ability to independently design experiments and analyze data;
- Greenhouse/growth chamber experience;
- Ability to identify, communicate, track, and troubleshoot plant health variables;
- Proficiency with data analysis and visualization software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree with minimum years of relevant experience; OR
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience; OR
- High School Diploma with 10 years of relevant experience.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $60,000.00 to $90,000.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
