YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position works collaboratively with the Genomics & Sequencing team members of Precision Genomics. The role will be responsible for delivering next generation sequencing libraries with emphasis on gene expression libraries and all associated sample organization and tracking. This position will utilize manual creation, automation or high throughput liquid handling technologies and specialized laboratory equipment to achieve weekly library targets. Technical knowledge to assess library quality and troubleshooting are required.
The primary responsibilities of this role, R&D Specialist III, are to:
- Complete next generation sequencing library creation for global gene expression profiling or other next generation libraries in alignment with the weekly work queue and prioritized by the team. The libraries could consist of standard or specialized libraries;
- Organize samples and track through LIMS system;
- Be responsible for organizing and reporting specialized reports, including analyzing and interpreting the results of experiments, production KPIs, cost/benefit analysis, and lab related issues to partners and key stakeholders;
- Thrive on meeting challenges, insist on high quality deliverables, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, and have proven initiative in some categories of accomplishments, either individually or as part of a group;
- Prioritize and coordinate work within a large team and provides training to a contingent workforce; maintaining detailed record keeping and required documentation;
- Be committed to safety, compliance, and stewardship through protocols, robust documentation, and best practices;
- Have primary or shared responsibility for specialized laboratory technology;
- Accountable for cross functional work in multiple platforms/process areas;
- Solve problems of routine to moderate scope requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning of diverse procedures within specialized laboratory technology; optimizes workflows; validates methods using multiple data sources;
- Use specialized scientific techniques to conduct experiments and process improvements;
- Adhere to established protocols and techniques;
- Operate and troubleshoot instrumentation;
- Perform a variety of experiments with accuracy; demonstrates knowledge of specialized laboratory and scientific techniques;
- Take initiative in keeping current with developments in specialized areas;
- Interact with others in specialized areas.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field;
- Strong molecular biology acumen with the ability to independently design experiments and analyze data;
- Demonstrated experience with handling RNA and next generation sequencing library preparation techniques;
- High throughput laboratory automation experience with mechanical aptitude for operating and troubleshooting automation;
- Must possess agility and adaptability to keep up with changing company priorities and balance multiple projects simultaneously;
- Proficiency with LIMS systems, organization and sample tracking, data analysis, and visualization software;
- Ability to build strong relationships and networks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field with 1 year of relevant experience in academia or industry;
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field 4 years of related experience in academia or industry.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $66,400.00 to$ 99,600.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
