SAP S/4 Basis Engineer 

 
   
   

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented SAP Basis & System Management Engineer to support the maintenance, stability, and continuous improvement of our SAP S/4HANA landscape, hosted on RISE with SAP.

The ideal candidate brings solid technical expertise in SAP Basis administration, takes ownership of their work, operates with a service management mindset, and is comfortable leveraging modern AI-powered tools to work more effectively.

This role collaborates closely with the CORE SAP S/4HANA Program and global IT Operations teams.


Your Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Core Basis Operations

  • Manage and administer SAP S/4HANA Basis components, including:
    • system monitoring
    • performance tuning
    • job scheduling
    • output management
    • troubleshooting
  • Work within the RISE with SAP operating model.
  • Monitor and support system performance and availability, proactively identifying and addressing issues to ensure a stable and reliable SAP environment in alignment with RISE with SAP service standards.
  • Ensure SAP system configurations and operations adhere to:
    • internal security policies
    • compliance requirements
    • audit standards
  • Support a secure and controlled SAP environment.

2. Lifecycle Management

  • Support the planning and execution of:
    • system upgrades
    • refreshes
    • patches
    • migration activities
    • system copies
  • Adhere to best practices and minimize downtime during lifecycle activities.

3. Service Management

  • Take ownership of SAP Basis-related incidents and service requests.
  • Actively investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in alignment with ITIL-based service management practices.
  • Ensure timely resolution and adherence to SLA commitments.
  • Support root cause analysis and problem management for recurring or complex technical issues.
  • Contribute to permanent resolution and knowledge documentation.

4. Improvement & Innovation

  • Support the continuous improvement of system maintenance and management concepts for SAP S/4HANA.
  • Support the definition and implementation of system archiving processes to optimize performance and storage utilization, including OpenText Archiving & Document Management.

5. Collaboration & Enablement

  • Collaborate closely with the CORE SAP S/4HANA Program and IT Operations teams to ensure system management aligns with project requirements and release and deployment timelines.
  • Collaborate with external IT Operations suppliers and SAP within the RISE with SAP framework.
  • Maintain accurate:
    • technical documentation
    • runbooks
    • SOPs
  • Support knowledge sharing and operational continuity within the team.

6. Continuous Learning

  • Stay current on SAP Basis best practices and SAP’s embedded AI capabilities.
  • Leverage AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar to enhance delivery quality and efficiency.

Who You Are

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in SAP Basis administration and system management, with a focus on SAP S/4HANA.
  • Relevant certifications and experience in a regulated (GxP) environment are a plus.

Technical Skills

  • Solid knowledge of SAP system architecture and system administration.
  • Experience with tools such as:
    • SAP Solution Manager
    • Cloud ALM
    • Redwood RunMyJobs
    • or similar platforms
  • Experience with DevOps and Agile methodologies is a plus.

Service & Delivery Mindset

  • Strong ownership mentality and ability to follow through on assigned responsibilities.
  • Service-oriented approach with focus on quality, reliability, and operational continuity.
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and contribute to sustainable solutions.

AI & Modern Tooling

  • Comfortable using AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar in the daily workflow.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Good problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams, program teams, and external partners.
  • Experience in international or cross-cultural teams is a plus.

Languages

  • Fluent in English (required)
