Bench Scientist Biotechnology (all genders), Frankfurt a.M. 

As a Bench Scientist Biotechnology, you lead scientific work on strain development and optimization, directly supporting bioprocess R&D projects. You design and execute experiments, analyze biological data, and communicate findings clearly across multidisciplinary teams while ensuring high scientific rigor and compliance. YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead scientific projects focused on strain optimization to support bioprocess R&D projects
• Design and execute molecular biology, metabolic engineering, and strain engineering experiments to develop and optimize microbial production hosts
• Generate genetically engineered strains using cloning, genome editing, and pathway engineering techniques
• Characterize engineered strains through molecular, analytical, and fermentation-based assessments
• Analyze and interpret biological data and communicate scientific findings to multidisciplinary project teams
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and communities (including biocatalysis, analytical sciences, biotechnology, and chemistry)
• Independently plan, coordinate, execute, analyze, document, and present project progress to ensure clear communication of results and insights
• Drive new concepts and innovative solutions together with internal and external partners

WHO YOU ARE 

• Completed university degree with several years of relevant experience, or a completed Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline
• Strong scientific track record and excellent problem-solving skills
• Strong scientific and hands-on experimental expertise in molecular biology techniques, biochemistry and/or biotechnology
• Hands-on experience with methods such as PCR/qPCR, cloning, CRISPR or genetic engineering approaches, transformation/transfection, protein expression and purification, protein characterization, and strain engineering
• Experience with different expression hosts, with an emphasis on yeast
• Experience with microbial cultivation or fermentation is beneficial, especially in applied research settings
• Digital mindset, effective and adaptable communication skills, and a strong commitment to cross-functional collaboration
• Excellent English language skills required; German is a plus

The position will be based in Frankfurt a.M. until the end of 2027. As of January 1, 2028, the position is planned to relocate to Monheim.
