Project Manager, Formulation and Process Development (F/M/NB)

This position plays a key role within the Semisolid Center of Excellence.

The incumbent helps ensure the continued market presence of existing products and oversees the development of new semisolid products (W/O, O/W emulsions, gels, and related formulations).

The project manager is responsible for selecting ingredients for formulation, defining critical process parameters, scaling up products, and transferring them to the industrial site. They make key project decisions based on technical feasibility data and company-wide priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Select, test, and recommend ingredients for semi-solid formulations in accordance with specifications and regulatory requirements (cosmetics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals).
• Provide technical expertise on new product development (NPD) and the maintenance of marketed products, meeting deadlines, for both internal sites and contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs).
• Define critical formulation attributes and critical process parameters (CPP/CQA), optimize, and lead the scale-up process .
• Conduct industrial feasibility tests and oversee technology transfer to Bayer sites and CMOs, ensuring effective knowledge transfer.
• Plan and prioritize scale-up trials to achieve robust, efficient, and reproducible processes.
• Contribute to risk assessment, success criteria, the technical product profile (TPP), and contingency plans.
•  Draft and oversee technical development and regulatory documentation (development plans and reports, technical dossiers).
• Monitor market trends, technologies, and regulatory developments related to semi-solids.
• Propose and manage necessary investments related to semi-solid technologies.
• Promote a culture of technical accountability within the CoE and collaborate closely with other CoEs.
• Ensure compliance with EHS and Quality regulations, and assist in the management and maintenance of the GMP area.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree (or international equivalent) in chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology, formulation, process engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of proven experience in the formulation and/or process development of semi-solid products in the cosmetics and/or pharmaceutical industries.
• Proficiency in scale-up and industrial transfer, including at CMOs.
• Solid understanding of development cycles, CPP/CQA, and robust process design.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and industry standards applicable to semi-solids (cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices).
• Excellent project management skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Rigorous, detail-oriented, analytical mindset, and problem-solving orientation.
• Professional written and spoken English; proficiency in other languages is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
