Field Production Supervisor 

 

Job Purpose:

 

  • Plan and coordinates field production activities of pre-commercial and foundation seed with seed growers and plant operations, in order too meet the seed availability and quality standards required. Ensures the responsible use of human resources, equipment and materials.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

  • Plan and coordinate production planning, grower contracting, planting-, detasseling- , harvesting processes, cultivation activities that includes, fertilizing, weed, insect, irrigation control for foundation seed inbred increases, single cross make-ups and pre-commercial seed productions.
  • Support field production for license hybrid parentals.
  • Liaise with Africa Foundation Area Field Manager to do grower selection, contracting and crop allocations as well as annual field reviews.
  • Responsible for all activities related to the delivery of high quality foundation seed.  This includes but not limited to pre-plant control, roguing (off type removal), harvest moisture control and field sampling.
  • Coordination with seed growers to ensure a smooth transition and flow of product from field to plant.
  • Lead ESH efforts, provide assistance and arrange for resources to promote safety in field operations.
  • Maintain field operational records as required by the QMS management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards and management system set by ISO9001.
  • Record field data in Velocity platform, to manage productions effectively.

HSE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Motivate field employees to wear the correct PPE
  • Follow Safety Operations procedures
  • Report all accidents or incidents immediately
  • Participate in identifying hazards
  • Participate in Tier meetings and monthly Health and Safety Meetings
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment
  • Upon request participate in emergency response teams and any other safety or health group established by the site
  • Participate in all required HSE trainings and educations
  • Participate in all emergency drills.
  • Be part of the reviewing of field JSA’s and Risk Assessments
  • Arrange maintenance on all Bayer equipment
  • Complete checklists on equipment prior to use
  • Ensure grower employees know the hazards on Bayer equipment

 

Qualifications and Competencies:

 

  • Minimum a diploma or bachelor degree in agronomy or 5 year experience in seed production.
  • Fluent in English
  • MS Office software (Excel, E-mail, Word, Project etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Results focused with ability to work on own initiative
  • Strong teamwork capability (flexibility to work across the areas and positively influencing others)
  • Making informed decisions on a timely manner.
  • Sansor field inspection and Phytosanitory certification will be an added advantage
