Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Generalist 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The HSE Generalist position will support the design, implementation, and execution of occupational health, safety, and environmental procedures at the Kansas City site. This position is highly collaborative and will participate in multifunctional teams, including interactions with Site and Functional personnel at all levels of the organization, including: leadership, operational, and technical personnel.

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Generalist, are to:

 

  • Develop, implement and evaluate high hazard compliance programs (e.g. fall protection/elevated work, confined space, hot work, excavation, etc.);
  • Conduct incident investigations for recordables and near misses with high potential, including root cause and trend analysis for corrective actions. Track investigations to completion and verify effectiveness;
  • Work with site to oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of site procedures to assure personnel, contractor and facility compliance to regulatory and company requirements;
  • Ability to serve as a chair for specific HSE committee’s and/or specialty function assistance (industrial hygiene, environmental, occupational safety, construction as examples);
  • Attend additional training as required;
  • Train new employees and supervisors on TIPPS software as well as selected topics such as (PPE wallchart, HAZCOM, etc.);
  • Assess training needs related to safety and occupational health to ensure all team members receive the necessary training to perform work in a safe and legal manner;
  • Build effective relationships and partnerships within and across the organization while leading relationships with external stakeholders;
  • Support preparation of HSE permits and reports to ensure regulatory compliance with the operation and construction of air permits, waste management, worker protection, and Tier II requirements;
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall goal of the position;
  • Knowledgeable of RCRA hazardous waste regulations, waste determinations, waste codes, and how to immediately communicate discovery of spills and leaks. Also, must know labeling, inspection, and recordkeeping requirements to accumulate waste in: satellite accumulation areas, less than 90-day containers, Universal Waste containers, and less than 90-day tanks;
  • Familiarity with emergency procedures, emergency equipment, and emergency systems.

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma with 6 years of chemical plant experience or equivalent environment;
  • Knowledge of OSHA and/or similar governmental agencies;
  • Operate effectively in a team environment or other multi-functional group;
  • Ability to prioritize assigned duties;
  • Effectively influence outside of HSE team;
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal, computer skills and ability to work within a database;
  • Ability to obtain additional education is desired.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Technical experience and acumen with OSHA, EPA, and State Specific requirements;
  • Professional designation (CSP, RSO, CIH, CHMM, etc.);
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards that impact Kansas City operations.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $69,520.00 - $104,280.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
