Health, Safety, and Environmental Technician
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Health, Safety, and Environment Technician, are to:
- Drive awareness, ownership, & accountability of the Hawaii wide Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) program at the site;
- Work with site management & HSE staff to achieve desired goals of the site;
- Maintain HSE programs at the site; work across Hawaii region to ensure consistency within the HSE program;
- Conduct inspections and audits of site as required and participate in seed site safety network as required by site management & HSE personnel;
- Prepare & retain training documents, job safety analyses, and other documents related to site safety activities as required by site management and HSE staff;
- Develop, with site management involvement, cost effective structure to achieve site HSE goals;
- Conduct HSE training programs in a manner that creates employee engagement and understanding with all levels;
- Work amongst all employees to identify and drive continuous improvements;
- Attend additional educational training as required;
- Maintain HSE recordkeeping systems required to document compliance with all Bayer & legal requirements;
- Utilize a risk analysis process to evaluate new and changing processes and the effectiveness of existing requirements;
- Assist with incident investigations;
- Collaborate with HSE Specialists and Technicians across the state to ensure compliance, consistency, and use of best practices across Hawaii;
- Position entails driving a company vehicle. This may include being required to drive greater than 5,000 business miles annually in a personal, pooled, or rented vehicle OR being expected to frequently drive a pooled car as part of your job duties – regardless of mileage.

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Computer skills to include working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook;
- Demonstrated communication skills including the capability to clearly present information to influence or persuade others through oral or written means;
- Demonstrated decision making ability and problem-solving skills;
- Detail orientated and the ability to work on multiple projects with a sense of urgency;
- Capability to work as an integral team member with site management, Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) staff, and site employees in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitment to goals and objectives;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of applicable government regulations Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), etc.);
- Valid driver’s license; Driving record (MVR) will be reviewed and must meet guidelines based on the company’s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One to three years relevant experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in related field with minimal experience;
- Bilingual skills;
- Knowledge of seed production processes;
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification;
- OSHA 30 hour General Industry course;
- Experience in risk analysis techniques.
