HSE Coord 





The primary responsibilities of this role, Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator, are to: 


  • Ensure the freedom of operation of the sites in the region by compliance with legislation and the corporate requirements related to the environment, safety and occupational medicine;
  • Lead and drive awareness, ownership and accountability of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) program to all employees (~300 EE) at the sites;
  • Support the site leadership team in compliance with the HSE policy and programs;
  • Implement strategies to achieve HSE goals and objectives at the sites according to the operational needs and critical risks;
  • Implement formal training programs that create employee engagement involving supervisors and all employees (~300 EE) at the sites;
  • Perform regular evaluations to ensure compliance and effectiveness of the safety management system using approved methodologies, such as audits (internal or external), safety tours, inspections, etc.;
  • Maintain HSE recordkeeping systems required to document compliance with all Bayer and legal requirements;
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to team members to ensure correct employee performance on HSE policy and programs, recognize process improvement opportunities and evolve the HSE culture at the sites;
  • Collaborate with HSE Specialist, Corporate Environmental Affairs and Global Engineering to evaluate and prepare air permit applications and/or exemption records for new and changing processes;
  • Utilize performance metrics, KPIs and risk analysis process to evaluate new and changing processes and the effectiveness of existing requirements;
  • Implement and encourage the use of key HSE indicators at sites in your region and monitor reactive indicators such as TRR, First Aids and Near Misses;
  • Influence key partners in a cross-functional environment to drive results, innovation and collaboration at multi-functional sites;
  • Lead and develop team of direct reports that are responsible for leading by influence across the sites; mentors, coaches and maintains a healthy working environment;
  • Collaborate with HSE Coordinators, Specialists and Technicians across the state to ensure compliance, consistency and use of best practices across Hawaii.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • At least three years of relevant experience including demonstrated ability to lead by influence, quality management and knowledge of applicable government regulations (EPA, OSHA, USDA etc.);
  • Computer skills to include working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook;
  • Outstanding leadership and communication skills including the capability to clearly present information to influence others through oral or written means;
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability and problem-solving skills;
  • Results driven/detail-orientated and the ability to work on multiple projects with a sense of urgency;
  • Capability to work with site management, HSE staff and site employees in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitment to goals and objectives;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Experience in risk analysis techniques;
  • Strong change management skills;
  • Experience working in multifunctional teams
  • Valid Driver's License


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Disciplines: Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Safety and Health, Safety or Environmental Management and Safety or Environmental Science;
  • Bilingual skills (ie. Tagalog, Ilocano etc.);
  • Experience working in Hawaii;
  • Seed production and Manufacturing processes knowledge;
  • ASP or CSP certifications;
  • OSHA 30-hour General Industry course;
  • Knowledge and experience in hazard recognition, BBS, hot work permits and confined space permits;
  • Experience in risk analysis techniques.
