Senior Agronomy Lead 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Agronomy Lead, are to:

 

  • Lead a team of operations leaders and agronomic experts responsible for the day-to-day agronomy operations including farm, land strategy andpreparation, integrated disease & pest management program, irrigation and soil health;
  • Provides leadership within Hawaii region around best practices that will drive achievement of pipeline delivery goals while maintaining the company s License to Operate (LTO). Total organization size of 34;
  • Responsible for setting strategy and operational execution in support of the Global Crop Science R&D organization;
  • Responsible for agronomic management of a broad range of nursery workflows supporting multiple stages of the product development cycle for breeding;
  • Collaborates with stakeholder groups to conceive, design, and put into production innovations that bring new technologies or insights to inefficient processes such as digital data collection tools, equipment automation, or process efficiencies that create a step change in productdelivery within R&D;
  • Optimize people performance and development through mentoring, coaching, appraisals/reviews, providing developmental opportunities, training and recognition;
  • Partners with the Site Operations Lead on maintaining and forecasting of the budget and keeping spend on target to meet overall corporate andcompany financial targets and internal controls including the spend and tracking of multi-million dollar assets and capital projects;
  • Communicate with external suppliers and industry consultants when required;
  • Ensuring the organization stays up to date on industry standards and practices. Ensures positive community relations and outreach efforts;
  • Establish an internal and external agronomic support network, driving engagement and collaboration between key stakeholders such as consultants, academics, influential leaders and community members to support maintaining LTO;
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement focused on innovation, cost efficiency, product delivery speed and quality of product delivered;
  • Develop a strategic direction for farm, land strategy and IPM Leads as they develop and improve research or production protocols;
  • Ensures that operational plans for the entire site are in place and used by staff of all site teams to deliver field and protected culture production and research activities;
  • Defines operational capacity and land utilization strategy to optimize operational efficiency; 
  • Communicates supply parameters to stakeholders such as Planning, R&D Scientists, Nursery Management and other Site Operations Leads;
  • Ensures that overall productivity metrics are met while enabling operations leads to maintain the highest levels of Environmental Safetyand Health (ESH), Regulatory and Quality performance aligned with regional best practices;
  • Responsible in leading and overseeing operation of research equipment, note taking, data management with internal IT systems, compliance with regulated seed stewardship standards, safety inspections/training and comply with all policies and standard operating procedures;
  • Oversee site wide training on agronomy procedures including WPS program;
  • Acts as conduit across Breeding globally sites to drive best practices and innovation through coordinated trials/protocols to develop/test new innovative solutions to improve data quality, increase throughput and/or improve farm sustainability;
  • Proactively identifies and shares workflow, digital, or automation improvements from the Maui Product Development Center with other R&D teams, especially those that will drive a step change in product development within other global sites.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in agriculture, manufacturing, production, operations management or related area;
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including influencing, coaching, facilitation, conflict resolution, and relationship management;
  • Ability to manage change and prioritize as necessary to meet business and/or customer deadlines;
  • Results oriented with the ability to make effective decisions after careful consideration of various courses of action and impact on variousindividuals and/or groups;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Good written and oral communication skills for effective interaction and representation of Breeding and Bayer values internally and externally with a variety of groups.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, or related area with minimum of eight years relevant experience in agriculture, manufacturing, production, operations management or related area;
  • Masters with minimum of twelve years relevant experience or Bachelors with minimum of fourteen years relevant experience will also be considered;

 

Relocation may be offered the this role.
