Bayer's Kunia Breeding operations, accelerating the production and advancement of materials through the R&D pipeline; leveraging the skills of Visionary, Architect, Catalyst, and Coach, you serve as the home leader of outcome-focused teams at the site to achieve the team's mission linked to customers and products; you create a culture of operational excellence through continuous improvement focused on innovation, cost efficiency, product delivery speed, and quality of product delivered; you provide guidance to meet site productivity metrics while enabling the highest levels of Environmental Safety and Health (HSE), Regulatory, and Quality performance aligned with best practices; you partner with the Hawaii Breeding Agronomy Leadership to drive best practices and innovation through coordinated trials that improve production quality, increase throughput, and improve farm sustainability; you oversee workforce planning through assessment of staffing needs, recruitment and hiring of full-time and seasonal staff, comprehensive training and development programs, effective task assignment, and performance management leveraging DSO principles; you coordinate and lead activities within the surrounding community to ensure positive community relations and outreach efforts.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Kunia-Oahu Breeding Lead, are to:

 

  • Provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team of scientists, operations guides, operations associates, operations managers/coordinators, technicians, and field crew, overseeing daily site operations using VACC principles;
  • Create a culture of operational excellence through continuous improvement focused on innovation, cost efficiency, product delivery speed, and quality of product delivered;
  • Provide guidance to meet site productivity metrics while enabling the highest levels of Environmental Safety and Health (HSE), Regulatory, and Quality performance aligned with best practices;
  • Manage a broad range of nursery workflows supporting multiple stages of the product development cycle for breeding at the Oahu Breeding production locations;
  • Partner with the Hawaii Breeding Agronomy Leadership to drive best practices and innovation through coordinated trials that improve production quality, increase throughput, and improve farm sustainability;
  • Partner with the Business Support Leadership on budget maintenance and forecasting, keeping spend on target to meet corporate financial targets and internal controls, including tracking of multi-million-dollar assets and capital projects;
  • Support Breeding Unit and Technical teams through personnel development and resource management, enabling operations guides and associates to contribute to product strategy and development in the associated pipeline;
  • Oversee workforce planning through assessment of staffing needs, recruitment and hiring of full-time and seasonal staff, comprehensive training and development programs, effective task assignment, and performance management leveraging DSO principles;
  • Provide leadership within the Hawaii region around best practices that drive pipeline delivery goals while maintaining the company's License to Operate (LTO);
  • Coordinate and lead activities within the surrounding community to ensure positive community relations and outreach efforts.

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • Must have valid drivers’ license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agribusiness, or related area with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience in agriculture, manufacturing, production, operations management, or related area; an MS with a minimum of 12 years, or a BS with a minimum of 14 years relevant experience, will also be considered;
  • Demonstration of VACC leadership principles: Visionary, Architect, Catalyst, and Coach;
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including influencing, coaching, facilitation, conflict resolution, and relationship management;
  • Ability to manage change and prioritize as necessary to meet business and/or customer deadlines;
  • Results-oriented, with the ability to make effective decisions after careful consideration of various courses of action and their impact on individuals and/or groups;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Experience with standard MS Office and software systems used in agribusiness data analysis, with the ability to quickly learn new programs and tools;
  • Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, ability to prioritize, strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong customer focus.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $154,300.00 - $231,500.00.  Compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
