Plant Operations Lead
Job Purpose:
- Responsible for plan, execute, and manage activities related to the processing of commercial maize Seed in Tanzania.
- Ensures all activities related to Seed Processing follow internal laid down procedures and advises the team on measures to improve or maintain product quality throughout the process.
- Ensuring efficient production processes, maintaining quality and safety standards, and optimizing resource use.
Key Task and Responsibilities:
Seed processing, Consumable planning& ordering
- Ensures plant processes of seeds ,seed storage/ preservation meets regulatory, business and customer specifications in Tanzania.
- Ensures all non-conforming seeds are segregated from field to plant and warehouse/storage level
- Gives technical advice to toller plant operations regarding seeds processing activities in order to maintain high seed quality during processing.
- Act as one point of contact for all Quality issues in tollers in Tanzania
- Adhere to the implementation and upkeep of the Quality Management System in the all-tolling plants.
- Continuously monitor plant seed production processes from receiving to final product to ensure that a high standard of quality and integrity of batches is maintained at all stages.
- Ensure seeds operations adhere to testing strategy liaising with the lab and quality release team to ensure only compliance batches are released.
- Collaborate with production team to derive; seed quality trends, non-conformance investigations and associated corrective and/or preventive action for seeds.
- Ensures sampling of all seeds and follow up testing for decision making.
- Conducting pre-processing defects tests on all seeds staged for processing to ensure defective batches are not treated and bagged.
- Perform in-processing checks (defects testing, weights, stitching, labelling) to ensure defective seed/bags are reworked.
- Support in seed field inspection during plant off season.
- Generate seed quality report on regular basis and sharing with the stakeholders.
- Plan, procure all consumables required for seed processing
- Ensure all product and by product of seed processing are well managed.
Documentation and Communication
- Maintain an archive of activities and communications related to processing documents for Tanzania processing plants and other production stations.
OnePSS and Continuous Improvement
- Participate in 5S activities in the working area, ensuring compliance with standards and conducting regular audits.
- Actively engage in TIER 3 and TIER 2 meetings in accordance with established standards.
- Ensure data accuracy on visual boards and adherence to compliance standards.
- Actively engage in problem-solving activities (e.g., 5 Why, Quick Kaizen) and lead assigned improvement initiatives.
- Monitor continuous improvement suggestions related to ONEMES [HSE, quality, and efficiency using the red/blue tag system, taking action on assigned tags.
- Take an active role in the commissioning of new applications related to the production system, serving as a role model for operators.
- Ensure safety and internal control compliance.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agriculture engineering, Seed technology or related field.
- At least 6 years of experience in a similar filed
- Prior experience in agricultural or seed industry is an added advantage
- Specific Seed production, handling, or processing of Seed.
- Fluent in English and Swahili.
- SAP & MS Office package
- Have good relationship and networking skills.
- Results orientated.
- Ability to manage and motivate people
