Postdoctoral Research Scientist: Molecular AI and Quantum Mechanics for Drug Development (f/d/m)

The Research Scientist position holder will work on the prediction and optimization of small molecule crystal structures for drug candidates and agrochemicals. The solid form of these compounds is of paramount importance as it significantly influences their stability and bioavailability, which are critical determinants of their efficacy and shelf-life. YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, we expect you to:
- Be an active member of a highly interdisciplinary and cross-organizational team with members from Bayer Crop Science, Pharmaceuticals and Consumer Health
- Drive the application of crystal structure prediction methods for small molecules
- Setup, validate and analyse DFT and classical MD simulations to obtain an understanding of the polymorphic landscape of a candidate compound
- Perform free energy calculations to study solubility of active ingredients in various solvents
- Closely collaborate with experimentalists to generate and test hypotheses
- Engage in the evaluation of commercial software and support method development
- Discuss your studies and results with colleagues from different functions and divisions, and present them in various committees
- Generate direct impact on our discovery and develop projects to help patients, consumers and farmers
- Strengthen external visibility and scientific excellence through publishing and engaging with the scientific community
WHO YOU ARE
- You hold a PhD degree in computational chemistry, materials science, physics, computer science, cheminformatics or a related field with good basic knowledge of chemistry, physics and/or materials science
- You bring experience with ab-initio methods and classical molecular dynamics simulations on small molecules or solid-state materials
- You have a scientific track record demonstrated by publications and conference contributions
- You bring knowledge of scripting and programming languages (e.g. Python)
- You are a highly creative, curious person with outstanding problem-solving ability and the willingness to learn fast and take on new challenges
- You have strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to work effectively both independently and in cross-functional teams
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken complete your profile
