Statistical Scientist (m/f/d) 




As part of the Bayer Crop Science’s Biologics Data Science organization, this role will help support the digital strategy for Bayer Biologics open innovation model with focus on early product development and 3rd party asset assessment. This position will be part of the Decision Science team that is responsible for providing innovative statistical and digital transformation expertise to the Biologics product development pipeline in St. Louis and Monheim. Primary responsibilities include:  


  • Providing product development support through hypothesis generation, experimental design, analytical modeling and statistical analysis for laboratory, controlled environment and field-based biologics experiments involving microbial, vegetables, fruits, and row crops for the biologics team 
  • Provide statistical recommendations on experimental designs, power analysis, and protocol development of various microbial, crop protection (pest, disease and weed) and crop efficiency research trials (lab, controlled environments and field) 
  • Deliver analytical solutions using statistical & data modeling methodologies to analyze data related to trait performance, interactions such as phenotype x environment & microbe x environment, and imagery analysis etc., in alignment with experimental protocols 
  • Perform statistical analyses and deliver clear interpretation of trial results & reports to drive strategic decisions on product advancement and portfolio development as needed 
  • Contribute to development of predictive and scalable models, and analytical tools accelerating development and launch of biological crop protection portfolios  
  • Collaborate with data science & cross-functional team members and stakeholders to optimize analytical capabilities/develop best practices for experimental planning, trial set up, data collection, code development, analysis, and data utilization 
  • Clearly explains technical and non-technical aspects of their work with other statisticians and stakeholders, both orally and in writing 
  • Build cross-functional relationships to collaboratively partner with the business and effectively network within the Bayer statistics and data science community 




  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with several years of experience or master’s degree with first experience or PhD in one of the following areas such as Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Data science, Applied mathematics, Plant Breeding and Genetics, or any relevant quantitative field. Experience in plant and agricultural research is a plus 
  • Very good knowledge of theoretical and applied statistics including but not limited to methods in experimental designs, linear mixed models, generalized linear mixed models, non-linear models etc., Experience in Bayesian methods and spatial statistics is a plus 
  • Applied knowledge of machine learning methodologies to develop predictive models to drive insights and decisions for product development and advancements  
  • Demonstrated computational skills and strong proficiency in programming languages such as R, SAS, SQL and or python or any other mathematical/statistical software, and any visualization packages (R-Shiny, Spotfire, Tableau etc.); experience in using cloud-based technologies/platforms (Data warehouse, Domino, and GitHub etc.,) 
  • Strong results orientation and taking initiatives to address opportunities. Effective communication and collaboration skills including statistical consulting to deliver stakeholders needs 
  • Fluent in English, verbal and written
