Materials Manager (m/w/d) 

 
   
   

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Materials Manager role is responsible for logistics processes on site, including production scheduling, raw materials planning, and order and transportation management for the export of manufactured goods; In this position, you provide efficient structures and processes and take ownership for optimizing inventory levels by creating a balance between supply reliability and stock reduction; You closely coordinate with site management and act as a key communication and information hub to main interfaces across different functions and levels within the BCS product supply network, ensuring seamless collaboration, reliable supply, and cost-efficient operations.

 

KEY TASKS:

  • Plan and ensure on-time purchasing of strategic and non-strategic raw materials, intermediates, and packaging materials for the production plants, balancing supply reliability with inventory efficiency;
  • Coordinate rough-cut production planning and oversee detailed production scheduling on site;
  • Exception-based management of supply chain issues as the primary point of contact for Bayer affiliates and suppliers;
  • Steer the Export Order Management Process (EOMP) via the triangulation model, executing the complete process from order entry through billing, including order confirmation, change management, and proactive order tracking;
  • Monitor and achieve key supply chain performance indicators (e.g., inventory levels, OTIF, schedule attainment, customer service level), driving continuous improvement actions where needed;
  • Organize and oversee the physical material flow to the site, within the site, and for outbound distribution of products to ensure safe, timely, and compliant movements;
  • Steer the utilization of local warehouses and infrastructure, controlling and optimizing site inventory levels and leading activities such as the annual stock-take to ensure accuracy and compliance.

 

WHO YOU ARE

  • University degree in Business Administration or a related field, with a specialization in Logistics or Supply Chain Management;
  • Prior supply chain experience in the chemical or process/manufacturing industry, with a strong business focus and cost-efficiency mindset across all processes;
  • Detailed expertise in SAP and Microsoft Office; prior experience with S4/HANA is an advantage and exposure to Kinaxis Maestro is a plus;
  • Solid knowledge of core supply chain management processes, including planning, purchasing, and international logistics, as well as legal requirements for the transportation and storage of dangerous goods;
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly address and resolve complex situations, set clear priorities, and make critical decisions independently under time pressure;
  • Proven communication and leadership skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, guide partners, and demonstrate an acute sense of urgency and accountability;
  • Fluent in both English and German; additional languages are considered an advantage.
