Senior Engineer
This role leads capital projects and engineering activities at Myerstown site. The role works with a dynamic team and is responsible for the overall management of the engineering projects investment planning and execution activities for facilities, utilities, OTC and Nutritionals factories at the Myerstown site including integration of the asset Life Cycle Management. The role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership capabilities, and a focus on driving innovation, advanced digitalization, and cost efficiency. The role is responsible for development of concept feasibility with large-scale and small (lump sum) capital investments and provides the leadership and ownership to translate the strategy to business needs, financial investments business cases, and planning & execution of projects while optimizing capital expenditure regarding COGS and operating costs.
The role is responsible for design planning, budgeting, procurement, and construction supervision of capital engineering projects. The role is accountable for the delivery of capital investment projects in time adhering to Safety, Quality, Supply and Cost commitments with least production impact from project implementation. The incumbent must have clear ownership of maintaining high standards of Safety and Quality in all aspects for the capital engineering support function including Operational Excellence, Efficiencies and Continuous Improvement near and long-term strategies. This role must provide strong leadership and coaching and development for a high performing team with a culture based on the Bayer DSO principles.
The role embraces Dynamic Shared Ownership (DSO) principles and practices and follows the VACC approach to leadership (being a visionary, architect, catalyst, and coach). The role actively evolves the site operating model and fosters successful adoption of DSO.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership: Act as VACC (Visionary, Architect, Coach and Catalyst) to build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of professionals, promoting a collaborative and innovative work environment. Establish target outcomes, priorities and coordinate talent flow to maximize organizational impact. The incumbent demonstrates, credibly embodies and showcases VACC leadership.

Capital Projects Planning / Execution and End-to-End Performance:
-
Provide input to translate the strategy to business needs and ensure the delivery of projects in time adhering to high standards of Safety, Quality, Supply and Cost commitments avoiding production impact from projects implementation.

Ensure the development and execution of the robust and reliable asset life cycle management programs including spare parts strategy closely align with site’s Operational Maintenance Excellence, Efficiencies and Continuous Improvement strategies for production equipment, facilities, and systems.

Lead project management activities with responsibility for design planning, budgeting, procurement, and construction supervision of capital engineering projects.

Leads detail scope definition, user requirements document, equipment specification documents, cost engineering, detailed design, procurement, construction management, detailed execution timeline and start-up activities with all cross functional stakeholders’ alignment.

Leads the development and execution of Installation and Operational Qualification (IQ/OQ) documents, including review and approval of validation protocols for new equipment and facilities.

Ensure timely coordination of needed raw materials, components, production/utilities equipment downtime for engineering factory acceptance test (FAT) and IQ/OQ activities with cross functional stakeholders and equipment vendors / suppliers.

Responsible for review and submission of capital projects business cases, appropriation requests and project closure packages to assure accuracy and completeness of all documents including scope, justification, asset capitalization, capex/expense determinations, asset retirement, sales and use tax application, safety and cGMP review, critical drawings update etc.

Provide technical expertise to production maintenance mechanics in daily activities and help troubleshoot problem areas. Provide technical input for the Preventive Maintenance program

for all production equipment.

Responsible for alignment with cross functional teams and all stakeholders regarding projects execution priorities and timeline.

Audit equipment vendors, construction services and engineering contractors and develop decisions regarding in-house or external work.

Factory Innovation, New Technologies and Cost Improvement:
-
Participate and support the development of a comprehensive long-term site strategy (aka Master Plan) related to space utilization, new innovative manufacturing technologies, facility layout and expansion, integration with site and global/regional innovation programs, and building resiliency into the plant operating modules leading to a 5+ year site strategy.

Lead, evaluate and drive the implementation of new technologies and state-of-the-art digitalization solutions in manufacturing and packaging processes.

Coordinate and plan the capital investment needs for Factory of the Future’s key strategic initiatives for new technologies across manufacturing, packaging, warehouse, and quality functions at the Myerstown site.

Quality & Compliance:
-
Lead and protect our “License to Operate”. Ensure that capital engineering processes and facilities are always maintained in excellent cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) conditions.

Ensure capital projects engineering processes compliance is fully met adhering to high standards of Safety, Quality, Supply and Cost commitments and required training programs are developed and implemented.

Audit equipment vendors, construction services and engineering contractors and ensure alignment with Bayer standards for projects.

Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and address any compliance issues. As well as providing the appropriate subject matter expertise during FDA and other internal/external agency audits with particular emphasis on engineering processes at the site.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
-
Work closely with core operations, engineering, supply chain, quality, controlling, Manufacturing IT, CoE Hubs, procurement, HR, and other departments to ensure seamless collaboration across all functions regarding capital projects planning and executions.

Collaborate with other Engineering professionals in the industry to keep current with technologies and other applicable regulations.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 6 years of multi-functional experience in Engineering OR a master’s degree in engineering with 5 years of multi-functional experience in Engineering.

Multifunctional and deep experience of complex engineering and manufacturing management in the consumer and/or pharmaceutical industry

Excellent project management skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams and complex projects.

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with all levels of the organization and external partners to concisely influence executive leadership peers.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $84,880.00 - $127,320.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
