Field Operations Supervisor
The Seed Operations Supervisor is fully responsible for the Grower network and for the Seed production fields in his area from contracting and planting up to harvest and financial settlements. will assist the Field unit lead in all aspects of field production. After harvesting, the Field Technician will be responsible for all drying and conditioning processes conducted in the sub-contracted plants and tollers assigned to him/her.
This position has daily contact with the Field Manager and fellow Field Technicians. Frequent liaison with the Plant operation planning supervisor, the Plant unit lead, QMS coordinator and Production Research Scientist is also essential.
This position is responsible to coordinate his seasonal field assistant during the vegetation period (6 months).
Responsible for his part in the Field production budget with precise financial documentation and settlements.
Your Tasks & Responsibilitites:
- Responsible for all operational actions and supervision regarding Corn and OSR seed production. This includes:
- Manage Grower network in his area: Identify best seed growers and production fields. Find extra or cut hectares for seasons. Manage price negotiation and contract signature.
- Ensure parental distribution and close field control. Manage planting/detasseling process where applicable
- Ensure visibility with proper and real time data capturing during vegetation period through digital tools (eg: Velocity)
- Apply Precision Ag. tools, use real-time digital data/technology to manage production: VSR planting, irrigation management, Scout, etc.
- Coordinate field services with Bayer field equipment
- Coordinate harvest activities and transportation flow of seeds to the site.
- Control and evaluate phytosanitary risks and coordinate preventive chemical applications on the fields
- Discuss improvement opportunities with production research
- Initiate or lead improvement design and implementation
- Understand metrics and own metric performance for own area
- Share and implement best practices from other sites
- Coordinate, train, and coach seasonal/contingent labor
- Participate actively in the Field HSE program, use Risk assessment tools and audit subcontractors
- Ensure that all operations are conducted in a safe way for employees, temporary workers, and sub-contractors
- Provide assistance to Plant planning and to Plant unit lead in drying and processing actions in our own Plant, Tollers or Subcontractors.
- Comply to the Quality Management System and the standards set by ISO9001 and ESTA. Also assist in the regular revision of relevant documents.
- Upon request he/she needs to control/audit randomly seed processing-bagging activities at Toller plants and report audit results to QA.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or similar area of expertise, Master’s degree is preferred
- Functional and technical skills in seed production
- 5 years’ experience in a similar position
- Fluency in Hungarian and English is required.
- Very good relationships with colleagues and external suppliers.
- Communication skills including the capability to clearly present information, influence or persuade others through oral or written communications.
- Decision making and problem-solving skills. Capability to act in solving problems while exhibiting judgement and a realistic understanding of issues, even when dealing with emotional topics.
- Self-starter, able to work independently but still a real team player to achieve team’s goals.
- Ability to work in unfavorable climatic conditions e.g., extended periods in the sun and on very seasonal schedule (peak of activities between June and October).
