Scientific Partnership Lead 

 
   
   

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Develop a comprehensive, constantly up-to-date, landscape analysis of the academic, pre-seed, seed & biotech stage opportunities in Japan
  • Develop and align scientific partnership strategies with Global Business Development and Licensing (BD&L) TA teams, Co.Lab teams, Regional Hubs, and Leaps by Bayer and search mandate to be able to provide meaningful leads sourced from innovation ecosystem, especially Academic researchers and early-stage biotech in Japan
  • Act as a door opener and ambassador for Bayer Pharmaceuticals (PH) and especially Business Development and Licensing Pharmaceuticals (BD&L PH) by initiating first contacts, and foster relationships leading to meaningful interactions with relevant stakeholders such as Academic institutions (Researcher and Collaboration office), Local biotech, Venture Capital, Accelerators, and Government offices in Japan
  • After establishment of initial contact and/or fostering of relationship building with meaningful/ relevant leads/targets, lead scientific discussions with respective Global TA/ Platform teams, and conduct initial evaluation and potentially deal making according to established governance model (1st Mandate, NBO Approval, BO Approval)
  • Provide scientific assessment for Collaborate to Cure Japan (CtCJ) potential partnership opportunities including late-stage deals in collaboration with CtCJ BD&L teams
  • Manage existing alliances and establish long-term professional relationships with potential partners at early-stage to promote PH as a partner of choice and function as the first contact for Japanese companies seeking global partnership with Bayer in collaboration with CtCJ BD&L team and Innovation Ecosystem Activation (IEA) team
  • Team up with local/regional External Activation/Event Management to develop a winning engagement strategy based on deep insights into the local/regional partnering landscape, including Co.Lab establishment from scientific viewpoints
  • Interconnect with Global BD&L TA teams and other Regional Hubs to improve operational excellence and work towards globally agnostic and regionally specialized approaches

 

 

WHO YOU ARE:

 

  • Master degree or above in a scientific discipline (biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, protein science, cell biology, gene technology, chemistry)
  • PhD holder is preferred for this role
  • At least 7 years of working experience, preferably in the Pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience in managing life science or similar scientific research laboratory
  • Experience in Academia, Technology Transfer Offices, Biotech, Venture Capitals, BD&L, or Business Consulting are a plus 
  • Ideally cross-company and -geographical experience
  • Project management experience with outstanding track record of results delivery 
  • Analytical and strategic thinking
  • Ability to work under high pressure with tight timelines in a regularly changing environment 
  • Balanced personality: diplomatic, perseverant with strong connector qualities 
  • Good communicator and networker, assertive and resilient 
  • Ability to handle and solve conflicts with diverse interaction partners 
  • High intercultural awareness 
  • Tolerance for ambiguity 
  • Good understanding of the value drivers of the pharmaceutical industry 
  • Fluent in Japanese and very good command of English; additional knowledge of German is a plus
  • Good knowledge of relevant IT systems (MS office, Excel, SAP)
