Plant Health Breeding Technical Trainee 

 

Job Purpose:

  • Bayer is seeking an enthusiastic Technical Trainee who wants to gain practical experience and participate in numerous chances to learn from genuine professionals in the field of Plant Health.
  • The Trainee will be given the opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that will provide support in their daily tasks. Within Plant Breeding, the Trainee will support the Plant Health team in delivering maize germplasm phenotyping for market relevant biotic and abiotic stresses and the deployment of native traits.
  •  In addition, the Trainee will work on a relevant project/s.

 

Task and Responsibilites:

  • To support operations of greenhouse, summer, and winter phenotyping nurseries safely, efficiently and to a high standard leading to generating high quality data for use in breeding selection decisions.
  • Actively support Plant Pathology laboratory operations (disease diagnosis, pathogen inoculum production) and field operations (pathogen inoculation and rating).
  • Collaborate with Seed Production team in seed production and inventory management.
  • Get familiar with the usage of digital tools in data collection and databases and systems for data handling and analysis.
  • Adhere to all applicable safety and environmental regulations and procedures to ensure continued compliance with in-country Health & Safety regulations. 

 

Qualificatons and Compitencies:

  • BSc or MSc in Plant Pathology, Agriculture, Horticulture or Biological Sciences.
  • Basic knowledge of plant pathology/mycology and/or genetics.
  • Strong understanding of molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, qPCR and DNA extraction.
  • Proficient in English language - written and spoken.
