Market Development Representative
Vegetable Seeds | Northern Victoria (Remote)
Bayer is seeking a Market Development Representative to join our Vegetable Seeds team, supporting growers and industry partners across Northern Victoria and surrounding vegetable production regions.
This is an exciting opportunity to combine your agricultural expertise and passion for horticulture to evaluate innovative vegetable seed genetics and support their successful adoption by Australian growers.
You will be based within Northern Victoria or Southern New South Wales, ideally within approximately 400 km of Mildura, this field-based role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to work closely with growers, nurseries, distributors and industry stakeholders across the region. Regular regional travel is required, with occasional interstate travel.
About the role
Reporting to the ANZ Vegetable Commercial Lead, you will drive market development activities across Bayer's vegetable seed portfolio, working with crops including melons, watermelons, tomatoes, onions and other vegetable categories.
Partnering closely with Commercial, Product Management, Marketing and Research & Development teams, you will conduct field trials, evaluate new genetics, generate market insights and build strong customer relationships that support regional growth and product adoption.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop trusted relationships with growers, nurseries, distributors, consultants and industry stakeholders.
- Develop and implement trial protocols, conduct field evaluations, and analyse agronomic, disease and performance data to provide evidence-based recommendations for product advancement, positioning and market fit
- Identify opportunities to increase product awareness, evaluation and adoption.
- Plan and deliver field days, grower meetings, technical presentations and product showcases.
- Support demand generation, forecasting and regional growth initiatives.
- Establish, manage and evaluate field trials and commercial demonstration programs.
- Assess varietal performance under local production conditions and capture agronomic, commercial and customer feedback.
- Provide recommendations to support product positioning, advancement and portfolio decisions.
- Maintain accurate customer, trial and market information within CRM and business systems.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities, providing actionable insights to support commercial decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with Commercial, Product Management, Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain and Customer Operations teams.
- Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with Bayer's safety, stewardship and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain safe work practices during travel, customer visits and field activities
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience within agriculture, horticulture, vegetable production, seed, crop protection or a related industry.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage a geographically dispersed territory.
- Current unrestricted driver's licence.
- Willingness to undertake regular regional travel (approximately 50-60%).
- Experience conducting field trials, demonstrations or product evaluation programs.
- Knowledge of Australian vegetable production systems and horticultural markets
- Experience in agronomy, technical sales, market development or business development roles.
- Experience using CRM, digital reporting and data capture tools.
