Area Vice President - West

Bayer's US Pharmaceuticals division is undergoing a major transformation in our operating model and customer engagement approach to better serve patients and customers and achieve “Health for All.”

As Area Vice President (West), you lead this transformation for cross‑functional Cardiorenal (CVR), Stroke and Women’s Healthcare (WHC) field teams (customer squads), guiding their transition into our new Area Business Unit structure and operating model and enabling them to win in highly competitive markets and an evolving healthcare ecosystem.

Reporting directly to the Head of Customer Engagement, you lead a diverse team of CVR, Stroke, and WHC Area General Managers across the West region, helping to shape and execute the strategic vision for our Customer Engagement organization while managing a broad portfolio that includes treatments for Pulmonary Hypertension, Chronic Kidney Disease, Heart Failure, Stroke, Menopause and Contraception.

You hold primary responsibility for delivering ambitious revenue growth and profitability targets across the commercialized portfolio while preparing the organization for future launches, all while strengthening Bayer’s reputation for excellence in culture, products and customer centricity.

As a key member of the Customer Engagement leadership team, you work closely with AVP peers and senior leaders in US Pharmaceuticals Headquarters (e.g., Product Squad Leads, HR, Communications, Medical, Legal) to drive execution of Bayer’s commercial strategies, represent and elevate customer opportunities that enhance access and impact of Bayer’s portfolios, and identify, develop and execute new go‑to‑market approaches that improve Bayer’s profitability.

  • Lead major change initiatives and strategies for existing and new indications and product launches, evolving the organization to meet changing marketplace dynamics and empowering teams with shared ownership to meet customer needs and initiate change;
  • Analyze market trends, prescription data, competitive dynamics and customer insights to uncover nontraditional opportunities to enhance customer engagement and service, leveraging both field teams and cross‑functional partners to address opportunities with the physician and organized customer communities;
  • Collaborate closely with peers and their teams (e.g., Managed Markets, Market Access, Medical, Marketing) to ensure effective implementation of CVR, Stroke and WHC franchise strategies, sharing customer feedback and market developments to influence strategic and tactical decisions and build strong external relationships with key opinion leaders and organized customers;
  • Coach and develop Area General Managers to build robust regional strategies, implement new solutions and change initiatives, navigate complex customer relationships, empower local teams to capture market opportunities and operate in a lean, agile manner;
  • Optimize and reallocate resources across Area Business Units and portfolios within the West region based on market and customer opportunities, while collaborating with other AVPs to balance competing resource demands across regions and enable rapid response to critical business needs;
  • Act as an inspirational executive who attracts, motivates and develops diverse, inclusive, high‑performing teams, fostering ownership, accountability and a healthy competitive environment, and proactively addressing performance issues to sustain a strong performance culture.
