GET TO KNOW OUR AREA:
We are GBS – Global Business Services, Bayer's shared services center, located in São José dos Campos/SP. GBS acts as a global strategic hub, supporting different areas of the company.
At this position you will be part of a Digital hub in GBS supporting R&D functions as Regulatory Science, Discovery and Testing for our Crop Protection business.
The Statistics Data Scientist applies rigorous statistical methods to generate robust insights while enabling automation and integrating ML/AI approaches where appropriate. You will extracts knowledge and insights from high-volume, high-dimensional data to address complex business challenges utilizing a variety of data preparation, modeling, analysis, and visualization techniques, including advanced statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and pattern recognition, to create solutions that enhance business performance.
GBS has a global and collaborative scope, offering development opportunities and allowing a broad view of processes and interaction with different areas and sites of Bayer.
YOUR MISSION WILL BE TO:
- Ensure rigorous experimental design, statistical methods, and interpretation of findings.
- Apply classical and/or modern statistical methodologies to draw insights and make informed decisions.
- Develop reproducible and automated statistical workflows, primarily using R.
- Integrate Machine Learning and AI methods with classical statistics where they add value.
- Maintain high-quality documentation suitable for regulated and scientific environments.
- Communicate assumptions, limitations, and results clearly to stakeholders.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner closely with interdisciplinary teams including chemists, biologists, toxicologists, bioinformaticians, and data engineers
- Translate analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders
- Proactively engage stakeholders to clarify requirements, align expectations, and refine analytical approaches
- Act as an end‑to‑end analytical problem owner, from problem framing through solution delivery and lifecycle management
- Support and mentor junior data scientists through technical guidance and knowledge sharing (without formal people management)
ARE YOU READY FOR THE POSITION?
- Master’s in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or quantitative field; PhD preferred for research-heavy roles.
- Bachelor’s with strong demonstrated statistical modeling experience maybe considered.
- Advanced courses/bootcamps in linear, generalized linear, and nonlinear mixed models, as well as experimental design are a plus.
- High fluency in R, Python, or other statistical/mathematical programming packages and reproducible coding practices.
- Methods: mixed models, Bayesian inference, causal inference, sampling, experimental design; quantitative genetics when relevant.
- SQL and data manipulation; visualization
- Clear technical documentation and communication of results/assumptions.
- Experience or strong interest in ML/AI-enhanced statistical approaches.
- Experience with container orchestration tools (Docker) and version control (GitHub).
- Experience working in cross-functional or matrixed environments.
- Ability to independently translate business or scientific questions into analytical solutions
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
- Effective communication with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver results with limited supervision
- Advanced / Fluent English
- Availability to work on-site one (1) day per week in São Jose dos Campos/SP - GBS site
