YOUR MISSION WILL BE TO:

 

Staff Software Engineers are focused on building and coordinating technical direction across teams. As experts in both technical and domain areas, they work with the Senior Staff Software Engineers, Senior Software Engineers, and Engineering Managers to set relevant long-term technical goals and drive innovative solutions that will continue to build on Bayer Crops Science’s market advantage. They also drive a focus on education and help develop team skillsets to match technical strategy.

 

Key Tasks:

  • Work as part of an agile development team to build and support applications;
  • Work with team and product manager to manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables;
  • Interact directly with business customers to gather and understand requirements and how they translate in application features;
  • Develop applications and services using the right tool for the job;
  • Consistently contribute to solving organization-wide problems including shared platforms, libraries, and frameworks;
  • Conduct functional and non-functional testing;
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications;
  • Deploy applications across all environments in collaboration with development team, product management, and delivery;
  • Champion code quality including unit and integration testing;
  • Evaluate existing applications to refactor, update and add new features;
  • Develop any technical documentation needed to accurately represent application design and code;
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to improve own knowledge and skills and those of more junior engineers;
  • Identify opportunities to develop new and better solutions;
  • Anticipate and address technical and organizational obstacles affecting own team and teams within the domain platform;
  • Provide guidance for technical design and architecture decisions within and across teams;
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of new technologies;
  • Mentor other people and teams on technologies, techniques or standards across the organization;
  • Build relationships with key members of partner teams.

 

 

Key Working Relation:

  • May report to senior people leader;
  • Works daily with a team of Software Engineers;
  • Collaborates with Product Management to manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables;
  • Interact regularly with Business Users throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Engage with teams who are outside the organization throughout the development process, as needed;
  • Interacts with engineers across the team, related teams, and domain platform;
  • May lead department teams and active in inter-department teams;
  • Gets along well in an expanded team. Actively solicits feedback from project members and looks for the right solution to problems. Able to mentor other more junior staff and leverage their time for the larger whole (delegation). Is comfortable with a change in direction. Knows the difference between a technical and non-technical issue and knows when additional stakeholders need to be involved. Able to clearly communicate the progress of a small team. Is a strong communicator and can represent technical material at an appropriate level for the audience;
  • Has begun to build company wide relationships.

 

 

 

ARE YOU READY FOR THE POSITION?

 

Must have:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, orequivalent experience;
  • Strong and preferred experience in solving challenging technical problems in two or more of the following areas:
    • Single page web application development;
    • Unix/Linux environment management;
    • Cloud based continuous delivery and environment management;
    • Mobile application development;
    • Micro-service design and development;
    • Large, distributed system development;
    • Software security;
    • Processing and analyzing large data sets;
  • Solid experience in developing cloud-based software solutions;
  • Practical experience and understanding of industry practices, engineering principles, concepts, and standards;
  • Expertise in at least one technology or facet of product development (research, design, programming, testing);
  • Demonstrates capable business insight, strategic mindset, cultivates innovation, drives vision & purpose, and attracts & develops talent leadership competencies and decision-making skills;
  • Demonstrates strong manages ambiguity leadership competency and written and verbal communication skills;
  • Languages: English, Portugese, and/or Spanish;

 

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in building and delivering agricultural and e-commerce products and strategy.
