SeedGrowth Lab Associate 

 

Registration of crop-protection active ingredients and formulations requires the submission of comprehensive crop efficacy, tolerance, residue, and field dissipation studies to governmental regulatory authorities. This position supports the SeedGrowth research program by generating efficacy and crop tolerance data needed for product registration.

 

Key Business Accountabilities: Contribute to the short- and long-term deliverables of the SeedGrowth Development Laboratory using specialized equipment, methodology and materials to deliver the Seed Treatment Development program and generate controlled environment research data.

  • Execute lab activities in compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Assist in preparing and executing the lab research program.
  • Manage on-site inventories including seeds, fungal inoculum, chemical samples, and lab consumables.
  • Data collection and non-technical equipment maintenance.

 

Bayer is committed to a flexible hybrid working environment. This is a 12-month term position, based at the research facility, 2411 Faithfull Ave, Saskatoon, SK.

 

What you will do:

  • Support SeedGrowth research program
    • Safe operations of laboratory equipment and handling of research material including seed, seed treatment and other chemical formulations as well as general lab chemicals
    • Preparation of research trial material including growth media, germination material, seed.
    • Conduct trial setup, maintenance, data collection and trial takedown
    • Assist in seed-treatment application activities
    • Preparation of seed for treating and packaging of treated seed for distribution to trial sites
    • Produce fungal inoculum for use in field and lab research trials, using microbiological aseptic techniques
    • Collect research data using Excel and web-based databases
    • Ensure safe disposal of all lab trial waste
    • Sample shipment and SDS management

 

  • Manage on-site seed inventory
    • Maintain inventories (seed, chemicals, fungal cultures, inoculum and general lab consumables) in local and web-based databases
    • Assist in the sourcing and procurement of seed as well as general lab and office consumables for research purposes
    • Responsible for intake, characterization, and volume management of seed and chemicals
    • Maintenance of the fungal culture collection and testing inoculum

 

  • Site & Administrative support
    • Maintain listing of all capital equipment
    • Develop and execute preventative maintenance program on lab and general site equipment based on equipment specifications
    • Assist in general lab maintenance and housekeeping activities
    • Support Sustainability, Safety, Health & Environment tasks including reviewing and updating Standard Operating Procedures

 

Who you are:

  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in biological/agricultural sciences or related field
  • General knowledge about chemicals, seeds and plants required, (plant pathology knowledge is an asset)
  • Basic microbiology skills such as sterile technique required
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Excellent organization, time management and team skills
  • Strong English communication
  • Motivated and able to work independently or in teams
