GET TO KNOW OUR AREA:  

 

 

Bayer’s breeding area focusses on quantitative Corn Genetics and leveraging statistical genomics, bioinformatics, predictive breeding to accelerate the development of high-performing corn hybrids. The team integrates big data and field analytics to optimize trait selection and drive genetic gain. 

 

 

 

 

MAIN PURPOSE:  

 

 

Quantitative Genetics process research leader will direct quantitative genetics research projects for breeding program design and optimization, breeding goal definition, optimization of automated processes, genetic evaluation, and optimization of data acquisition for Product Design. Leads key research projects and/or multi-disciplinary project teams to advance the Precision Breeding strategy for Product Design. Leads the delivery of high-quality lines, data packages and prescriptions to the Product Development pipeline using the latest innovations in data science, genomics, quantitative genetics, computational biology, bioinformatics and advanced genotypic, phenotypic and environmental modeling. 

 

 

 

 

YOUR MISSION WILL BE TO: 

 

 

  • Provides leadership to develop, implement and advance quantitative genetics innovations and processes in the Product Design pipeline;  

  • Executes the quantitative genetics technical strategy to design improved cohorts of germplasm that are aligned with Product Concept targets from initial crossing through the handoff to Product Development;  

  • Leads quantitative genetics projects on implementation of Precision Breeding technical innovations in Product Design;  

  • Contributes strong technical and process expertise in coding, delivering and utilizing models, algorithms and systems for breeding program design and optimization, breeding goal definition, optimization of automated crossing processes, genetic evaluation, and optimization of data acquisition at scale;  

  • Attracts and develops talent and serves as a mentor for peers or colleagues in key areas of expertise that support personal development as well as identifies key areas of opportunity for new technology implementation and/or process improvement, while positively contributing to a collaborative, innovative, and design-centric culture;  

  • Integrates and leads multi-function teams across Product Design and partners across other world regions (LATAM, EMEA and APAC) to support innovation projects for Precision Breeding, with a key focus on driving genetic gain and product performance through digital transformation and new technology development and deployment;  

  • Supports the Health Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights policies and culture in the site.  

 

 

 

 

ARE YOU READY FOR THE POSITION? 

 

  

Must have: 

 

 

  • PhD in Quantitative Genetics, Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, or a related scientific field, or MS in a relevant discipline, with a strong background in developing quantitative genetics methods and integrating them into breeding programs.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to drive shared objectives.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading and influencing cross-functional initiatives without direct reporting lines.
  • Skilled in navigating challenges and opportunities by engaging key stakeholders and facilitating actionable solutions.
  • Strong results orientation with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently.
  • Expertise in analyzing large-scale biological datasets, applying quantitative and statistical genetics, and programming in R, C, Python, Fortran, or similar languages.
  • Track record of applying quantitative genetics theory and implementing models, algorithms, and systems across multiple areas, including:
  • (i) breeding program design and optimization;
  • (ii) breeding goal definition;
  • (iii) optimization of automated processes;
  • (iv) genetic evaluation;
  • (v) large-scale data acquisition strategies; and
  • (vi) execution of quantitative genetics operations in plant or animal breeding contexts.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills demonstrated through fostering cross-functional partnerships and influencing innovation to address business challenges.
  • Proven ability to manage and solve complex scientific and operational problems.
