Operations Coach - Tanzania 

Role Description:

• The Operations Coach (OC) is an individual contributor who is providing Technical-leadership on operations to a self-guided team, with higher level responsibility and liaison with cross-functional or Unit leads.
• The OC manages the operations of a given breeding testing network, and establish clear processes to ensure accurate, precise and timely data delivery on product performance in the different environments and management conditions.
• As a coach, provides skill building opportunities to help a self-guided team to build capabilities for value creation for customers and stakeholders. The OC is part of the AR&I team and reports to the Africa Lead.

Role Purpose:

• Technical leadership: Strategic planning and prioritization of field-testing operations to align with  Regional portfolio objectives and AR&I strategies. 
• Coach: Enable the empowerment of the local AR&I team members to deliver more value, foster collaboration. Help the team to work in 90-day cycles. Ensure effective learning and transfer of best practices through guidance and training to unlock team’ full potential.
• Manage stakeholder engagements: Key contact for stakeholders (Product Design & Development teams, Customer Facing Units etc.) and co-operator farmers. Co-create with the stakeholders to ensure alignment. 
• Resource management: Responsible for budget management, capital forecasting and project management.
• Provide guidance and financial control in project budget planning and utilization.
• Cross-regional collaboration: Establish strong regional and global collaborations for technology adoption and the improvement of AR&I outcomes in the Region.

Scope:

• Primary: Management of Tanzania Field Testing Network operations
• Secondary: Collaborate and align on country specific missions and outcomes with the local Customer facing Units and Support functions.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

• Responsible for permanent and temporary staff training and development.
• Responsible for implementation and compliance of SSHE procedures for safe operation of the testing program in Tanzania.
• Optimize testing sites selection and trials management to understand product performance.
• Coordinate planting, plot management, data collection and harvest operations of maize trials in alignment with Breeding objectives. 
• Responsible for data quality checking and achievement of overall team data quality targets using organizational data reporting and visualization platforms. 
• Regularly extract, analyze, and interpret phenotyping and operational performance data to gain insights into areas of improvement and contribute to strategic projects. 
• Be an active member of projects relating to core AR&I initiatives.
• Responsible for capital projects for investments and local community relationship.
• Maintain knowledge of technical advances to increase the efficiency and quality of research trials by interfacing with appropriate equipment and supply providers. 
• Develop operational, maintenance, and calibration standards for research equipment in collaboration with the equipment specialist. 
• Supervise the compliance to Regulatory and Corporate policies on internal and external field activities to ensure Freedom to Operate (FTO).
• Responsible for creating a culture of safety, quality, and compliance, leading by example.

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:

• BSc or higher in Agronomy, Breeding, or related field. 
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a field-testing environment.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Office
• Knowledge of crop production, crop protection, farming practices and equipment management.
• Knowledge of statistical programs and experimental design principles.
• Excellent data management, acquisition, organization, analysis and presentation skills.
• Flexibility in an agile work environment.
• Good communication (English) and influencing skills.
• Excellent personal interaction skills and leadership capabilities
