Medical Science Liaison 

 

Purpose: 

 

To provide scientific expertise and advise to Bayer NA sub-region and the medical experts through the dissemination of scientific data and material. The MSL will establish long-term scientific/strategic relationships with key, influential physicians/scientists/stakeholders and with related major medical associations and academic centers of excellence. These relationships will ensure that opinion leaders and organizations have access to relevant scientific information and that pertinent information is shared with the medical community. The MSL uses his/her experience and knowledge interacting with key external medical and pharmacy professionals through the process of education via one-on-one interaction; small group discussion; and symposia lecture presentations including interactions associated with sponsored medical education programs and research protocols. The MSL will facilitate Thought Leader (TL) involvement in national, regional and local educational forums including advisory boards, symposia and continuous medical education activities.

 

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) also serves as an important partner to internal stakeholders within Bayer by feeding in relevant information from Thought Leaders (TLs) to key cross-functional partners. Medical Science Liaison is a field based medical function; he/she has to spend at least 70% of the time in the field and 30% or less in the office for planning/reporting purposes (as per the MSL manager discretion and the amount of office work that needs to be done)

 

Duties & Responsabilites:

 

  • Exchange and dissemination of scientific, educational, and research related information : The MSL plans, prepares, partners and engages with TLs as a subject matter expert and colleague both proactively and reactively via various innovative TL engagements tactics and formats to provide dissemination, clarification and education of scientific data, study protocols, meeting abstracts, and professional literature (Both proactive discussions on-label, and reactive discussions for unsolicited off-label questions in alignment with local regulations)
  • Interactions with Medical Societies: The MSL answers medical/scientific queries of Medical Societies with regards to assigned Bayer products
  • Participation at/networking in Congresses and Conventions: The MSL uses congresses and conventions to network with TLs, establish new contacts, and gather competitive intelligence and treatment trends insights
  • Contribute and co-develop local product Medical plans for the BU (medical activity plan) in collaboration with the Medical head and the brand manager
  • Coordination of Scientific Education Activities and advisory boards: The MSL plans and organizes scientific training and education events/sessions and advisory boards with TLs within their assigned therapeutic area or product
  • Preparing reports and tracking activities: The MSL submits timely reports of field interactions and event as well as tracking activities against agreed PMP objectives and country medical activity plan
  • Collecting Investigator Initiated Research (IIR) ideas and facilitating IIR set-up: The MSL acts as a point of contact for investigators, facilitating the interface with investigators and appropriate Bayer personnel responsible for approval, and communication of study

 

Background & Experience:

 

  • Experienced Medical Affairs personnel , with 2–3 years experience as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) within a multinational organisation
  • Strong medical background coupled with a degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, or Veterinary Science. A Postgraduate qualification is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken, is essential for this role.
