Product Design Principal Scientist

GET TO KNOW OUR AREA:

The Product Design within Breeding area is responsible for translating advanced scientific data (genomic, phenomic, and environmental) into strategic germplasm design decisions, ensuring products meet agronomic, market, and pipeline needs. The team operates at the intersection of science, strategy, and execution, working in close integration with Breeding, Analytics, Plant Biotechnology, Field Solutions, and Product Development to drive innovation and value creation.

 

YOUR MISSION WILL BE TO:

  • Provides leadership to coordinate the technical strategy to design improved cohorts of germplasm that are aligned with Product Concept targets from initial crossing through the handoff to Product Development
  • Leverages model outputs to achieve measurable improvement of quantitative traits under selection
  • Acts as a key stakeholder to drive strong collaborative relationships with field testing, data science, engineering, molecular breeding, logistics, trait integration, Product Development, Market Development, and Commercial organizations to deliver a robust product pipeline
  • Ensures meaningful knowledge and data transfer during transition points per crop cycle timelines
  • Proactively identifies key areas of opportunity for new technology implementation and/or process improvement, while positively contributing to a collaborative, innovative, and design-centric culture
  • Integrates and leadsprojects/initiatives with partner teams and across world regions (NA, LATAM, EMEA, APAC) to guide development and implementation of Precision Breeding
  • Attracts and develops talent and serves as a mentor for peers or colleagues in key areas of expertise that support personal development
  • Supports the Health Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights policies and culture

 

ARE YOU READY FOR THE POSITION?

  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Genetics (human, animal or plant), Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related scientific field, combined with deep, hands-on experience in breeding programs, genetics, or applied data science projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to achieve common goals
  • Demonstrated experience leading and influencing activities of cross-functional teams without direct reporting relationships
  • Ability to lead and influence key stakeholders through challenges and opportunities; facilitates solutions
  • Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously
  • Experience in analysis of large biological data sets, quantitative genetics, biostatistics, and functional genomics
  • Experience coding experience in R, Python or similar software
  • Strong collaboration ability demonstrated through building cross-functional partnerships and influencing others to drive results and solve business problems
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex problems
  • Fluency in English
