Senior Data Engineer
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer for Bayer's Data & AI Team!
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be a part of Bayer's Data & AI Team with a focus on developing and operating reliable data pipelines that enable timely access to high-quality data assets. You will be part of a dynamic team of technical experts, working hand-in-hand with subject matter experts, data product managers, semantic experts and data scientists to create data products that help Bayer to accelerate time-to-market, drive innovation and enhance efficiency across the whole pharma value chain.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work in an agile team to develop and operate reliable data pipelines from source to product to ensure compliant access to data in context of FAIR data product,
- Collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders to capture data-related business requirements and translate them into efficient technical solutions to ensure a fit-for-purpose technical implementation,
- Work with architects and subject matter experts to capture and manage dependencies between data solutions to ensure a healthy data ecosystem,
- Actively exchange with peers to embrace and apply best-practices and standard technical patterns and solutions to maintain a consolidated and scalable data landscape,
- Mentor junior engineers and uphold high standards in code review, testing, and documentation.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field,
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data operations, or a similar role, delivering production-grade data pipelines and services,
- Strong ownership of deliverables, high standards for code review and peer mentorship, and a commitment to clear documentation, metadata/lineage publishing, and sustainable data engineering standards and practices,
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills,
- Good communication and collaboration abilities to work independently in a self-organized team,
- Willingness and ability to learn and integrate new tools and technologies to enhance work efficiency and effectiveness,
- Understanding of Data Product concept and respective lifecycle management, including data quality key dimensions and tools, such as Great Expectations, dbt tests, or Elementary,
- Hands-on proficiency in SQL, Python, PySpark, or Spark to build scalable data pipelines and optimize processing using modern data processing frameworks, such as Databricks or Snowflake,
- Proven experience with ETL/ELT tools such as AWS Glue, dbt core, or Pentaho,
- Ability to integrate data from source systems using various interface patterns, such as ODBC, GraphQL, OData, REST, or event streaming,
- Good experience with cost and performance optimization and FinOps practices for cloud data systems, such as Snowflake or Databricks, ensuring reliable operations and scalable data delivery in production environments,
- Understanding of modern lakehouse table formats (Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake) and ability to design, build, maintain and document conceptual, logical, and physical data models,
- Understanding of data architecture patterns, such as data hub, mesh, or fabric,
- Experience with GxP and computerized system validation is a plus.
