YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will ensure the efficient operation of the insectary at the Waterman Site by coordinating daily rearing activities, implementing process improvements, and developing innovative methods. This position is crucial for maintaining the health and productivity of insect populations while supporting the timely shipping of insects to key partners. By integrating digital tools, the role aims to enhance operational efficiency and facilitate collaboration within the team. The position is essential for supporting its research and commercial objectives.
The primary responsibilities of this role, Scientist I, are to:
- Responsible for the planning and following daily routine of key insect rearing in controlled environment;
- Assist in insect sampling, processing, and logistics;
- Follow established workflows, timelines, and deadlines, adapting approaches to match shifting demands;
- Build partnership and collaborate with peers to meet shared objectives;
- Troubleshoots assays challenges and implement system improvements, including the development of new assays and statistics analysis;
- Train other team members in specific related activities;
- Effective management of rearing supplies such as diet ingredients, seeds, leaves, and vitamins;
- Oversight and give direction to seasonal/temporary workforce, including training, planning, appraising performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems;
- Participate in all activities associated with the maintenance and upkeep of research equipment, infrastructure, and facilities;
- Comply with Biosafety/Stewardship/HSE regulations following Bayer´s policies and guidelines, including Quality Management System, promoting safe working environment, and housekeeping practices;
- Responsible for keeping insect traceability, identifying, and implementing improvements, according to Insectary needs;
- Be able to create, use and reorganize the information/data on Power Apps, power BI, or any similar applications.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Agriculture or related areas;
- Ability to conducts research and contributes to research projects, technologies, publications, intellectual property, or trade secrets;
- Knowledge of or experience in Entomology;
- Digital skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Agriculture or related areas with minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; OR
- Master’s degree with minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
This posting will be available for application until at least May 7, 2026.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $76,480.00 to $114,720.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
