Senior Medical Director for Molecular Imaging and Theranostics
The Senior Medical Director for Molecular Imaging and Theranostics is a board-certified or eligible physician (MD or DO) responsible for leading and shaping the medical strategy for Bayer’s Radiology portfolio with a primary focus on Molecular Imaging, Targeted Radionuclide Therapy, and Theranostics. This individual will serve as the primary medical expert for the Americas, collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders across Medical Affairs, R&D, Marketing and Regulatory Affairs to ensure scientific excellence, drive innovation, and support the integration of molecular imaging technologies across key disease areas.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Medical Director for Molecular Imaging and Theranostics, are to:
Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Development
- Lead the development and execution of the Medical Strategy and Tactical Activation Plans for molecular imaging and theranostic platforms in the Americas and Global;
- Provide medical insight to early-stage pipeline planning, product lifecycle strategies, and in-licensing opportunities for radiopharmaceuticals and companion diagnostics;
- Serve as the US/ Global Medical Affairs lead for the Molecular Imaging & Theranostics Chapter, collaborating with commercial, clinical development, launch excellence, and data generation.
Medical Expertise & External Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Thought Leaders (TLs) in nuclear medicine, radiology, and oncology to shape Bayer’s presence in the molecular imaging field;
- Represent Bayer at major medical congresses (e.g., SNMMI, RSNA, ASCO), communicating the clinical value of Bayer’s theranostic and imaging innovations;
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on scientific narrative and evidence generation.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Provide strategic medical input to Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Clinical Development, and Communications on molecular imaging assets;
- Participate in due diligence efforts and regulatory interactions (e.g., FDA meetings and submissions), ensuring the scientific and clinical robustness of the pipeline;
- Support development and review of promotional and non-promotional materials, press releases, and training content for commercial and medical teams.
Data Generation & Evidence Strategy
- Oversee medical components of Real-World Evidence (RWE), Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR), and Investigator-Initiated Researches (IIRs) to support product positioning and market access;
- Lead the development of scientific materials and publications in collaboration with external researchers and internal publication teams;
- Provide medical oversight for post-marketing commitments and regulatory-required studies.
Operational Excellence
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within Medical Affairs, ensuring high standards of compliance, efficiency, and innovation;
- Collaborate across functions to harmonize strategic objectives and operational execution across regions.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
- MD Radiologist with Nuclear imaging degree/experience or Nuclear Medicine MD;
- Experience in medical affairs, clinical development, or related pharmaceutical/biotech roles (exception - Medical Experience may also be recognized as equivalent experience);
- Deep understanding of imaging biomarkers, radiopharmaceutical development, and theranostic paradigms;
- Proven experience in engaging with regulatory authorities and leading scientific discussions with external experts;
- Strong knowledge of preclinical and clinical trial design, regulatory requirements, and statistical principles;
- Excellent communication, presentation, and cross-functional leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7+ years of industry experience preferred.
