Internship in Peptide Chemistry (All Genders)
We are a dynamic, motivated and diverse team and are looking for a bright, energetic student to join our team.
The Peptide Discovery Lab (PDL) aims to develop new, innovative peptide-based therapeutics and tools. For this purpose, we use a number of technologies that we constantly develop further: structure-based design, various screening methods for lead generation (internal and external), automation & digitization of the peptide platform, computational design/modeling, bioconjugation & classical medicinal chemistry. We collaborate closely across Bayer Research & Development as well as with external partners to develop new therapies for patients.
Time Frame: 6 months
Starting Date: 01.07.2025 - 01.08.2025 (upon agreement)
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design and synthesis of complex peptides, peptide conjugates, glycopeptides and/or peptidomimetics on solid support or in solution
• Develop and optimize synthetic methodology in peptide chemistry to benefit ongoing and future projects
• Support our lab automation by establishing and optimizing workflows
WHAT YOU BRING WITH YOU
• You are a passionate scientist close to completing a master’s degree or in a gap year prior to starting a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or related discipline.
• You are motivated, driven, curious and have a keen interest in broadening your scientific knowledge.
• Ideally, you have knowledge and hands-on experience in peptide synthesis and have further experience in at least one additional field, such as:
o Design and synthesis of peptide conjugates, glycopeptides or peptidomimetics
o Organic synthesis
o Screening technologies such as phage display or mRNA display
o (LC)MS or proteomics
• You possess good communication skills and are quick in finding your place in new environments.
• You are fluent in English; German is a plus
