Senior Scientist Process Chemistry (m/f/d) 

 

As a Senior Principal Scientist, you are responsible for the development and optimization of assigned chemical processes, generating benefits in yield, quality, and cost. Your scope includes small molecules as well as synthetic modalities such as protein conjugates or peptides. You contribute as part of project teams to process transfers from laboratories to the relevant production plant or site (scale-up) internally and/or externally. You ensure competitiveness of production processes by evaluating and applying new and state-of-the-art chemical technologies and methods. You provide scientific input and guidance to laboratory teams, always ensuring compliance with safety regulations. You develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of experimental procedures, results, and protocols. You stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in process chemistry and technologies and take ownership for implementing new technologies and methods. You drive excellence in synthetic chemistry within Drug Substance Small Molecules and across the Bayer-wide chemistry community. You present findings and progress updates to internal stakeholders and at external conferences and workshops. You co-shape the way of working within the Process Chemistry cluster, embracing our Dynamic Shared Ownership operating model.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Responsible for the development and optimization of chemical processes, focusing on yield, quality, and cost
  • Contribute to process transfers from laboratories to production plants or sites, both internally and externally
  • Ensure competitiveness of production processes by applying new chemical technologies and methods
  • Provide scientific input and guidance to laboratory teams, ensuring compliance with safety regulations
  • Develop and maintain documentation of experimental procedures, results, and protocols
  • Stay updated with advancements in process chemistry and implement new technologies and methods
  • Drive excellence in synthetic chemistry within Drug Substance Small Molecules and across Bayer's chemistry community
  • Present findings and progress updates to internal stakeholders and at external conferences

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

  • Hold a PhD in organic chemistry or related discipline with extensive expertise in industrial process chemistry and chemical API development
  • Strong project management skills, including vision generation, progress tracking, and stakeholder management
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build trustful relationships and motivate team members
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, able to communicate across multiple levels within and outside the organization
  • Excellent knowledge of classical and modern synthetic methods; knowledge of modern tools in digital chemistry and automation is a plus
  • Demonstrated creativity and independence in solving complex scientific problems through solution-oriented chemical experiments
  • Fluent in German and English, both verbal and written
