Director, Thrombosis Research, Cardiovascular, Renal and Immunology 

 

As a Director, Thrombosis Research, you will play a pivotal role in representing CVRI Research on global clinical-phase Thrombosis programs. You will collaborate closely with translational, clinical, and regulatory functions to develop and execute research plans that inform dose selection, elucidate mechanisms of action, and strengthen the target-disease link. Your efforts will maximize value and support life-cycle management for late-stage assets. You will provide deep scientific expertise in pre-clinical research pharmacology, particularly in the areas of stroke, thrombosis, and neuroprotection, contributing to strategic research and development activities.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Director, Thrombosis Research are to:

 

  • Represent CVRI Research on global clinical-phase Thrombosis programs, collaborating with translational, clinical, and regulatory functions
  • Develop and execute research plans to inform dose selection and mechanisms of action, strengthening target-disease link and supporting life-cycle management for late-stage assets
  • Provide deep scientific expertise and vision to support pre-clinical research pharmacology in the field of stroke, thrombosis and neuroprotection.  Contribute to strategic research and development activities in this area.  Establish and maintain close connection to key opinion leaders in this area
  • Design and supervise the execution of functional in vitro and/or in vivo studies to support target rationale, therapeutic candidate characterization, and mechanism of action evaluations
  • Responsible for generation of key documentation and presentations for projects moving through internal review stage gates and regulatory submissions
  • Role model for compliance regarding HSE, documentation and Good Research Practice guidelines
  • Play a key role in coaching and guiding research associates and junior scientists within a matrix organization
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and interdisciplinary teams both within Bayer and with a wide network of external partners & collaborators
  • Assess external targets, therapeutic assets and relevant technologies to understand the competitive landscape and identify potential opportunities for collaboration, in-licensing or technological innovation
  • Maintain and extend a network with external partners from academia, contract research organizations and medical experts

 

WHO YOU ARE  

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:  

 

Required Qualifications:  

 

  • Ph.D. in a Biological or Medical Science
  • Deep expertise in Thrombosis & Hemostasis Research with a proven track record of scientific leadership and publication in this field
  • Multi-year experience in drug discovery and development, ideally in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in designing in vitro, ex vivo, and/or in vivo models for relevant patho-mechanisms in this field (eg. coagulation, fibrinolysis, platelet activation, clot composition)
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and project leadership
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to manage changes in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for science and urgency to discover new medicines for patient benefit

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Knowledge of key patho-mechanisms relevant to stroke and neuroprotection

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $174,400.00 - $261,600.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.

 

This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
