Applied Pathology Research Specialist 

 
   
   

Main Purpose

The primary focus of this role is to support disease testing and diagnostic activities, and to support disease trait projects and disease assay
development and improvement initiatives. Pathology Research Specialist collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, including plant
pathology, plant breeding, genetics, testing, and operations, to drive progress toward platform objectives.

 

 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

 

  • Performs pathology phenotyping assays in the greenhouse, field, or lab to deliver timely/weekly targets. Actively supports the
    design and implementation of new bioassays. May support discovery projects focused on new disease traits or on enabling
    relevant technology for the program.
  • Assists with plant production, inoculum production and disease diagnosis and improvement of technology and processes
  • Supports rearing, handling, and utilization of insect vectors for disease transmission assays and insect (e.g., thrips, aphids),
    ensuring compliance with phytosanitary and biosafety protocols.
  • Has primary or shared responsibility for specialized laboratory technology.
  • Organizes, reports, prepares, and maintains technical documents such as disease protocols, diagnostic methods, or best
    practices. May co-lead these efforts.
  • Use of relevant hardware and software for data collection, management, QAQC and reporting.
  • Solves routine problems requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning, with ability to manage multiple projects and
    interact with others within specialized area.
  • Works collaboratively and outreaches within and beyond the team for knowledge and problem solving. Interacts effectively.
    with employees and stakeholders at different levels.
  • Manages multiple tasks and works effectively with more than one technical supervisor.
  • Champions HSE policies and phytosanitary procedures for the safe operation of the local research facility and program.

 

Qualifications & Competencies

 

  • BS with minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in biology, agronomy, plant pathology or related field or relevant
    experience. MS degree is desirable.
  • Ability to collect, understand, analyze, and summarize data effectively. Basic experience or knowledge in research methods,
    experimental design and statistical knowledge are desirable.
  • Strong computer skills and basic ability to use enterprise databases. Ability to apply AI to daily activities is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct tasks independently and in a team setting to accomplish goals within specific timelines.
  • Strong ability to work through ambiguity and use creativity, proactivity and collaboration for problem solving.
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) in English, to convey information, insights and results to colleagues,
    partners and stakeholders. Local language skills highly desirable.
