Seed production Breeding Technical Trainee 

 

Job Purpose:

 

  • This individual is included in all aspects of shed operations, seed preparation, seed shipping, field activities, nursery planting, pollinations, data capturing, harvesting and inventory management, as well as related computer software and applications. 

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform computer-related activities including handheld device data collection, data management, and barcoding functions. 
  • Coordinate and assist in seed processing operations including seed shelling, packaging, treating, and packet arrangement. 
  • Troubleshooting key processing and packaging operations 
  • Leading project management and process improvement initiatives 
  • Maintaining process quality 
  • Provide support to the Breeder and Research Associate. 
  • Assist in site safety programs. 
  • Participate in evaluation and implementation of new technologies. 
  • Travel and time away from home may be required occasionally. 
  • Weekend work during peak periods may be required. 

 

Qualifications and Competencies: 

 

  • Diploma/BSc degree in agronomy, plant science, or related discipline OR 3 years agricultural research experience. 
  • Basic knowledge of crop production and farming practices. 
  • Leadership and people management skills. 
  • Organizational and record keeping skills. 
  • Communication fluent in English and computer skills. 
  • Detail-oriented with ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Proficient in English language - written and spoken.
